Attorney General told FBI director James Comey NOT to send letter to Congress about bureau reopening the investigation into Hillary's emails because it could influence the election outcome

Attorney General Loretta Lynch advised Comey against sending a letter to Congress about the FBI's reopened investigation into Clinton's emails She argued to Comey that he should follow the Justice Department's practice of not taking actions that could influence the election Attorney General Loretta Lynch advised and objected against FBI Director James Comey's move to send a letter to Congress to inform them about the reopening of the investigation into Hillary Clinton's private email server.

Lynch argued to Comey that he should follow the Justice Department's practice of not taking actions that could influence the outcome of a presidential election, The New Yorker reported on Saturday.

Comey broke from Lynch, who objected to the move along with the Deputy Attorney General Sally Yates, and independently sent the letter to Congress on Friday, dropping the bombshell about the restarted investigation based on newly discovered emails, rocking Clinton's campaign.

Comey's supporters argue that he had to break away from Lynch and act independently on the issue due to her compromising herself when she had an impromptu visit with former president Bill Clinton late into the investigation earlier this year. Comey broke away and sent a memo to bureau staffers explaining his decision to notify Congress He wrote that the FBI would not 'ordinarily' inform Congress about its ongoing investigations But said he noted he felt an 'obligation to' given that he testified repeatedly in recent months that bureau's investigation was completed On Friday, he sent a letter to eight Republican lawmakers regarding the reopened investigation - rocking Clinton's campaign

Comey has pulled the pin on the grenade and is now holding down the lever.

They can’t kill him yet (but I wouldn’t put it past the Clintons to try). They have to kill his name first.

If there is anything left of the GOP, they best circle the wagons around him NOW...

... and Find Huma before she’s covered in black in an unknown country.

Lynch needs to go back to cleaning motel rooms. She’s in over her head. What kind of “America’s Top Cop” invokes the Fifth Amendment? Only crooked and corrupt cops do that.

Obama can fire Comey with a phone call. Will that help Hillary? NOPE, adds more drama

Maybe Comey heard he was about to be fired and did this pre-emptively, and without informing his boss ahead of time.

AG translation: Don't give the people all the information before an election.

IOW, incumbent politicians seeking re-election should be above the law, unless they are Republicans, of course.

refusing to appoint a grand jury
______________________________

I heard numerous “talking heads” on Fox blaming Comey for not convening a Grand Jury...

You are saying it is Lynch’s responsibility to do that?

Which is correct?

The FBI directer is appointed for 10 year term by the president and confirmed by the Senate. He does not work directly for Lynch.

So, don't tell the TRUTH, because it might hurt Hillary?

It won't hurt Hillary with the Democrat base, but those Independents who were leaning her way could start thinking they might just stay home, or even, if they just can't abide Trump, vote for the Libertarian or Green party, just to 'make a statement'.

Works for me, either way.

This, after she takes the 5th to avoid self incrimination and well after she illegally held a clandestine meeting with Bill in the final phase of the investigation for potential espionage charges against Hillary.
Comey made the point that she has no credibility to interfere in this investigation.

“So what about his July press conference? Didn’t that influence the election? These people are too much. :-) “

Indeed. One could argue that his statements in July did and will have more impact on this election than what he wrote and released yesterday.

At this point, the election is what it is. Most people will be voting for the person they decided on in October (if not before then like, say, July).

Of course the Democrats will say that was "The People's Right to Know."

So, it's the "peoples' right to know" about the indictment of a cabinet member, but NOT about an FBI investigation of a candidate for President?

If it were an investigation of Donald Trump, don't think for a minute the Democrats would worry about it.

Honestly, I don’t know what Comey considered before writing this letter. He’s kicked a hornet’s nest. The left is enraged and will stay there until the next crisis- ours or theirs.

So mant people are leaking...lots of conflicting info. Naturally.

My worry now is a backlash/sympathy vote for her..

Only the DOJ can empanel a grand jury for a case. The FBI does not have that power. The FBI also needs the DOJ even just to go before a judge and apply for a search warrant.

Because Comey has stepped forward and is pretending he is making all the prosecutorial decisions on this case, it is leading a lot of people to misunderstand the roles involved.

The FBI is merely an investigatory agency. They play the role of police detectives at the federal level. They do not play the role of the DA.
