No, We Should Not Legalize Recreational Marijuana Use
Public Discourse ^ | Oct 18, 2016 | Tim Bradley

Legalizing recreational marijuana use would hurt not only those who smoke—it also hurts children and society as a whole. As a country, if we encourage and profit from this vice, we will be undermining the very foundations of our government.

_____________

Four states and the District of Columbia have lifted their prohibitions on recreational marijuana use by adults. That number could double in November, when Arizona, California, Maine, Massachusetts, and Nevada vote on proposals to eliminate state restrictions on possession and cultivation of specified amounts of marijuana by those twenty-one and older.

The fact that these are voter-driven ballot initiatives is both a blessing and a curse.

I know this will start a very contentious discussion here, but well-reasoned arguments deserve a hearing. Bring your own well-reasoned arguments, or nothing.

I fully agree with this. We’re in a sad shape today when it comes to drug laws.

In the fwiw dept, I don’t believe legalized mj is a good idea. Having said that, I think mj should be decriminalized.

Democrats but pot legalization on a ballot when they want to turn a state. It worked in Colorado, now they are trying it in Arizona.

Our local pot shop is owned and operated by conservatives. They have free doughnuts on Fridays and are raking in cash by the truckload. God Bless America.

Legalize it everywhere. Tax the HELL out of it. Claim it’s, ‘For The Children’ then let the Nanny State Socialists DESTROY this Cash Cow too, using fake data and emotions - as they did with tobacco.

Again, ‘For The Children.’ ;)

I hear stoners say all the time. “Hey man! A drunk runs a stop sign and kills somebody. A stoner stops at the sign and ponders its significance to the universe.”

We actually don’t need to legalize it, since the Federal government has no Constitutional authority to regulate it in the first place.

Let’s bring back prohibition too. That worked out really well the last time we tried it.

Yeah, actually, we should legalize marijuana.

Less organized crime.

Less pollution in the forests. I have come across so many unlawful and illegal grows when hiking.

Less fake prosecutions for people who did nothing to another person, whatsoever.

Less human trafficking. Being an unlicensed pharmacist leads to human trafficking and then....

Less smuggling. We don’t have a huge crime wave for smuggling tobacco or alcohol and those are pretty dangerous substances. Not that I care. I drink, I smoke, I chase girls...

People are already getting high and living productive lives.

This is not a crime.

It should be taxed and regulated....

Oregon legalized dope a while back. I live in a nice neighborhood, and now have 4 dope shops within a mile. Hash oil explosions are becoming more common, as are motor vehicle deaths by stoned drivers.

Drug cartels will exist and thrive no matter what.

Bring your own well-reasoned arguments, or nothing.

I shall attempt to prove that drug laws are like, bogus.

Thank you.
