On the heels of Blue Cat Cafe’s anniversary, Austin’s first cat cafe was vandalized on Friday, October 21. Statesman reported that someone spray painted "Fuck you gentrified scum" on the cafe’s door and front of its adjacent food trailer. The person or persons also glued the doors shut.
Blue Cat Cafe’s grounds on East Cesar Chavez are controversial. It is adjacent to the lot that used to house pinata store Jumpolin, which was suddenly demolished in 2015. The land is owned by F&F Real Estate Ventures, run by Jordan French and Darius Fisher. People call the razing as unfair, and don’t believe any business they see as benefiting F&F (i.e. paying rent) should exist on the property. This includes the cat cafe.
Later that day on Friday, a group, Defend Our Hoodz, held a protest outside of the cafe on East Cesar Chavez, calling for a boycott of Blue Cat and and its landlord F&F Real Estate. The protesters said they weren’t involved with the vandalism.
Someone started a GoFundMe page to help raise funds for the cafe's repairs, which as of publishing time, was close to completing its goal.
When Blue Cat Cafe debuted last year, protesters greeted the opening day. Owner Rebecca Gray launched a Kickstarter campaign to open Austin’s first cat cafe last year in February, and raised the funds by April 2015. She quickly found the location on East Cesar Chavez. Guests can play with the adoptable cats and do other cafe activities. The on-site trailer serves up vegan food and coffee.
A win-win in my book. Liberal opens a cat friendly vegan cafe in a black neighborhood and it got vandalized. A win in my book, because maybe, just maybe, it’ll open her eyes (but I kind of doubt it). Hood rats burn the revenue earning cafe down for whatever racist reason. Another win in my book, because I’ve gotten to the point with them as I have with muslims, as long as they are self destructive, killing each other, blame everyone but the one in the mirror type cultures, I just don’t give a flying 2 cents anymore.
I dunno, they said the felines are adoptable so I’m guessing you can grab one, and take it home to sleep with you too!

Haha, I remember when they started tearing down old solid buildings and throwing up poorly built condos everywhere in my neighborhood during the real estate boom. Someone would go around spraypainting “Die Yuppie Scum” on all the new buildings :D
Yeah, I’m sure a “cat cafe” serving vegan food is going to bring a lot of jobs to a low income Mexican neighborhood.

Impossible. I have been repeatedly told throughout my life that low income is the cause of all crime. Heck my mother and grandmother didn’t even have hot and cold running water, and they shot up the neighborhood almost weekly.

No no no. The libs are the ones being attacked. You’re not keeping up. :-) It’s the liberal people of pallor who erroneously think that the people of color, whose cause the liberals have championed lo these many years, truly wish to **coexist.**
That erroneous thinking is coming ‘round to bite them in the ass.
Turns out the people of color do not, in fact, want **them** coexisting next door. The downtrodden and oppressed masses have no interest in having “da hood” cleaned up and rid of blight, graffiti, and crime; and even less in having the property values increased; the natives regard the meddling, gentrifying fixer-uppers as colonialists, the local version of imperialists.
The only righteous way to respond to this out outrageous intrusion in neighborhood self-determination is with a necklace party.
