It was just reported that our heating bills will increase about 10% this winter. The car insurance renewal is up $6 a month, and the homeowners went up about $400 (no claims). Groceries are costing us pretty close to $100 per week, up about $10/week over a year ago. Have had one tiny raise since 0bama has been in office, and health insurance is about 70% more for my premium share.
Who can afford to buy a new car?

I’ve been looking, maybe now is a good time to buy. Need something I won’t have to work on for about 5 years.

Anyone have any idea when the car industry will start to offer some YUGE deals to offset their losses? I’m holding out for a $100.00 a month lease. It that a reasonable expectation?

It doesn't help that used vehicles can nearly run forever with a little wrenching.
Toyota and Honda can get 300K miles with the proper care, as do Ford and Chevy trucks.

What do you need a car for...? Liberals will require you to ride a train, bus or bike to work from your mud hut.

My 1981 Toyota SR-5 pickup has more than 300,000 on it. I baby my 2007 Toyota Tacoma with 55,000...

Never gotten more then 160k miles on a auto transmission. Unlucky I guess, I’ve switched back to manual. A new clutch every 150K isn’t so bad.

That $2500 would help a lot on a down payment or a few regular ones. If only it were true. Thank the wun and fellow travelers.

My dad’s Honda Croov is 12 years old now with just maintenance items.
Most reliable vehicle he has ever owned bar none.

More like $10,000 for many if you avoid the penalty.

A friend's sibling has been in auto dealership management for over 30 years, and he said the last couple of years have not been great, but 2016 has really sucked and he doesn't see improvement coming. When pressed about why, he had one word:
"Obama."

Most mechanics recommend changing the ATF every 30K miles to keep them healthy. I usually by used vehicles and the ones where the transmissions failed under 200K miles didn't have ATF fluid changes.
I now change the ATF religiously every 30K and only purchase used vehicles with service records showing proper transmission care.
