The incident that you mention was a very specific and exceptional circumstance - not the kind of wide-ranging jihad like we see in islam.
It was directed against the Indian Government (an Air India flight), in retaliation for the Indian Government’s 1984 Operation Blue Star - where the Indian Army invaded the holiest site of the Sikh religion (the Golden Temple in Amritsar) and killed thousands.
Those turbulent times are over. The pro-communist Indira Ghandi who ordered the massacre is dead (gunned down by her Sikh bodyguards), and the sectarian tensions between Hindus and Sikhs has basically healed. India even had a Sikh (Manmohan Singh) as its Prime Minister from 2004 to 2014.

Absolutely...immigration system should emphasize skills, education, ability to speak English and yes, amount of money the immigrant can bring with. That is exactly what New Zealand does, and has a much more successful immigration system.
I think BeauBo is refering to violent crimes such as armed robbery, rape, murder, etc. Smuggling drugs is an opportunity based crime, which connects the supplier with the buyer. Whenever anything is made illegal, and which has a demand in the market place, there will be people willing to fulfil the need.
I am guessing you are basing that from Indian restaurants in USA. In restaurants in India, legumes, wheat & rice are the most popular basics used.
I thought this thread is about Hindu’s, not Sikh’s. Diwali is strictly a Hindu religious festival. Just like Christmas is strictly a Christian thing. That does not stop people of other faiths celebrating Christmas and joining Christians. It does not mean they are giving up their own faith by observing Christmas rituals such as exchanging gifts and placing lights around their homes.
To me it seems to be a show of respect by attending. Nothing more & nothing less.

What is the basis of the prohibition for an observant Jew from going to a Hindu Temple, or attending a Diwali Party?Broadly, Observant Jews don't go to others' houses of worship period, even during non festival days. The same applies to non house of worship parties/celebrations where other gods are involved.
There are several ideas behind the prohibition. A few are...
"appearances" - What would a an Observant Jew think seeing another Observant Jew go into another's house of worship? This is a big deal and raises many questions and concerns.
"difficulties" - Should an Observant Jew enter another house of worship or even an offsite Diwali party, there are a number of difficulties unknown to the others that may cause conflict or friction. Not being able to eat or drink their celebratory food/drink, not shaking hands with the opposite gender, immodestly dressed women, images/idols of other gods in a home, etc, etc.
"temptation" - A warm and celebratory atmosphere, with delicious food and drink, served by a beautiful hostess are strong temptations, better to never put yourself in that position.
Is there no exception for work related or social/neighborly visits, which lack any intent to worship another diety?Generally, no, for reasons above. Work-related issues, especially when supporting a family, can have some leniencies.
How is Ivanka different? First, everyone knows - in advance - why she is going, there is no question or uncertainty. Second, it is very public. Third, she is surrounded by people who plan in advance to avoid "difficulties" and control "appearances."
Lastly, her appearance is an opportunity for a tremendous mitzvah.
I see. So the problem is not the very large asian drug business in Canada, but the real problem is Canadian laws, which only serve to encourage otherwise law-abiding honest Asians to massively deal in drugs.
These @$$holes are taking our jobs. I’ve been in the software industry for 32 years now and it’s awful. My last contract position it was 90% Indian. Thankfully I’ve found non-Bangalore pastures since then. It’s not easy.
There is probably no other region that has suffered as much from invading Islamic extremists than India.
India has many religions and sects - from “Hinduism” which is really a term that was used by others from other areas of the world to describe a region (and a mispronunciation of Indus as in the river in India’s Indus Valley which had a great civilization) and not a religion, to Buddhists, and some are not aware there is a notable Jewish population, Jains (followers of a religious renunciate Mahavira or the “Great Hero” who was actually a contemporary of Siddhartha (the Buddha or “intellectual” as in Buddhi or intellect, Siddhartha was a Hindu Prince who later went into religiots life and teaching and was a reformer of Hinduism and his teachings were a mix of Hindu and Jain, later called Buddhism), and Sikhs (a mix of many religions including Christianity), Zoroastrians and Sindhis, various old localized religions, Christians who arrived very early after the foyndatiin of organized Christianity, all had their temples and churches torn down and a mosque built on top, mass murders, taxes on non-Muslims, it was very, very hordific actually.
Hindus like Trump. Also, understand - “Hinduism” is not a single “religion”. It is many, many, many sects and brliefs that range from atheism, to many Gods, to regional Mother Goddesses, to One God, to a single Primary God and all others like “Angels” or demiguds, to a totally impersonal “force” or where “everything is the manifestation” of Supreme, or where God is a Light or Jyoti, or where the Name of God is All, or on and on and on, each small area of India has it’s God or no God or force, or philosophy, thus you see thousands of Mothers (Goddess) and one area know the name but doesn’t know the name of the Goddess or Father or God I another area - some in the West put it all into one buvket and say Hindu.
But it isn’t.
But one thing for sure, it had many things like this long, long before there came Islsm invading.
Then much destruction came. They have never furgotten that. In the “many points of light” all over India.
I hope the same destruction does not come to America. If there is one thing for sure, if you want to know about the story of Islamic extremism and terror, ask a “Hindu”.
