This "acquisition" needs to be denied. AT&T is far and away the most evil, predatory company on the face of the Earth. Years ago, Judge Harold Greene broke up AT&T, but that notwithstanding, the multi-headed hydra has resurrected itself. If any company should be completely dismantled, it's AT&T!

Isn’t this the deal Trump promised today to quash?

ATT is pathetic, proving a company that provides lousy phone and Internet service can still accumulate billions from its victims.

So.. you work for the Times?
You just claimed so.. by listing yourself as the author.

How long have you worked there?

MICHAEL J. de la MERCEDO is listed as the author, we’ll have to assume that is YOU since you listed yourself as the author.

Right?

If it was Google or Apple buying Time Warner, these same liberals would be cheering.

No kidding, we need competition, not ever increasing government sanctioned monopolies. The whole point was not to have very few so there’s effectively no choice for people.

This is just another example of every increasing government sanctioned monopolies which have accelerated under Obama. They rip the public off. This is, incidentally, exactly the kind of company Buffet likes to invests in - he calls them companies with economic moats (barriers and monopolies). Phone plans and entertainment packages are ridiculously expensive in the states and don’t need any higher. Real competition needs to reign.

Dismantling AT&T was one of the dumbest things ever done to this country. Our phone systems went from being by fat the best in the world to near 3rd world. Of course you can’t put the genie back in the bottle, no level of acquisitions will give us a proper national telephone system again.

During his speech in Gettysburg this morning Donald Trump said that this purchase would NOT be allowed if he is elected President.

Gee what a horrible merger..and I thought things were bad when they became Spectrum which has been a spectacle. We have been with TWC since the Adelphia days..til about 2 months ago we were paying 141 a month(1 DVR box and three digital boxes, phone, and internet..200mbps) then after the Spectrum merger, they jacked up the price to 169 a month for the same thing and they downgraded our internet, now we have 100mbps for the same price..and the phone service stinks, every few days we have to call them to send a signal to the phone box because we cant call in(or out) the ONLY reason we stayed with TWC was their internet and now that’s turned to garbage not sure where to go now

AT&T tried owning a cable company once. They bought TCI for $48 billion, then later sold to Comcast (about 3 years later) for a little over $500 million cash and some stock in the resulting entity. If they are paying $80 billion for Time Warner cable, they ought to be able to unwind this deal for at least $1 billion.

Should be a good matchup while it lasts - both have lousy customer service.

Ripoff lying company ( Att). Every month they bill 50 percent more than the rate they quoted And it usually takes 6 or 8 hours on phone and computer to get them to correct it. Very very aggravating. I say Att should be broken up LIKE IT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE! thanks

The value of this deal really depends on how the acquisition is structured.

Too much more debt is not a good thing, prompting rating downgrade and possibly a dividend cut.

Too much share dilution is not a good thing, taking share price lower and possibly a dividend cut.

Either way dividend growth investors are not going to be happy.

Yup, another mega-merger with nary a peep out of the SEC. This merger is predatory and monopolistic and would be easily knocked down on anti-trust grounds if the rule of law existed in this country anymore. I just shake my head when I hear the commie Dems talk about how bad the evil mega corporations are when it’s their policies enabled them.

They’re called ‘Spectrum’ in La-La Land.

One would think they’d have a vested interest in Trump’s being elected, ‘cause if he isn’t, this Spectrum outfit is going to lose customers en masse.
