Note that a true CERTIFIED financial planner is aware of laws regarding the Patriot Act (annual certification) and a host of other laws that they are required to understand, including proactively alerting authorities to obvious illegalities.
For normal citizens, the CA Franchise Tax Board strikes more fear into them than the IRS. Twice as complicated, more arbitrary, with loads of Sacramento's (not) finest tax law minds waiting to call you guilty.
