New York Observer owner and Donald Trump's son-in-law Jared Kushner has had a "brief," informal chat with deal maker and LionTree chief exec Aryeh Bourkoff about a postelection Trump-brand media network, according to the Financial Times, citing sources familiar with the matter.
Kushner reportedly reached out to the head of the boutique investment bank, a personal friend, over the last few months. Bourkoff is the financial advisor behind Walt Disney's (DIS) 2014 acquisition of Maker Studios, as well as a number of other deals.
Trump had told the Washington Post in mid-September that he had "no interest in a media company," calling it a "false rumor," amid chatter that he, possibly with ex-Fox News chairman Roger Ailes, was mulling the creation of a network. He then told the Post that he remained focused on "win(ning) the presidency."
But the most recent polls have shown Hillary Clinton to have anywhere from a 4-point to 11-point lead in the wake of the sexual assault allegations against Trump, an issue that has prompted numerous GOP lawmakers to withdraw their support for the Republican presidential nominee.
It is unclear exactly when Kushner's conversation with Bourkoff took place.
A theoretical Trump network could potentially siphon away viewers of Fox News, owned by 21st Century Fox (FOXA). Fox News also has a sister channel, Fox Business Channel.
While the Financial Times points out that squeezing another channel into a cable package would be difficult, Recode imagines it as an over-the-top service, calling a Trump channel "one that could rival or even supplant Fox News."

Fox would be finished, and no one would miss it.
I imagine Sean Hannity will get the top slot and be made the director of communications.
Although I’d rather see him as Trump’s Press Spokesman.
Absolutely not!
If you think after all the crap he’s been through, and TOLD he be put through by many friends, just to get enough popularity to create a network, you’re playing with the reduced-thinking, extra-cynical card deck!
First, he already had the popularity, and MONEY, to do so.
Instead he chose to run for President.
Kudos to that.
I very much want him to win. He does, too. The country’s soul NEEDS it!
But that soul has been/is being deeply wounded by the constant barrage of liberal, Left-wing, anti-American propaganda being put out every second by the democrat journalists.
It gets more and more outrageous every day. Our Western, most-successful ever civilization is being torn apart by the Left. Communism, the scourge of the 20th Century, still very much exists in the Leftist Media.
Having a real alternative to that would be the second best thing to beating Hillary Clinton!
[More likely it would kill the cable TV industry, as I strongly suspect no major dish or satellite system would carry it.]
I agree. One of the hesitations that I have cutting the cord is the concern of not having a reliable news source in place of the few programs I watch on Fox or FBN.
“Im all for it, however I do not think he can do it as President.”
I don’t think it would be a problem. It could be called DBC, Deplorables Broadcasting Network.
Ahhh...one can only hope!! Wouldn’t it be refreshing to have true conservative news on mass media and get rid of faux news...because if Hillary wins we can probably say goodbye to Breitbart Free Republic right side broadcasting OneAmerica Etc
If Hillary gets elected the Trump network will be off the air within one year. Hillary would squash it. FCC issues don’t you know.
Trump should buy Comcast, and own CNBC, NBC and MSNBC - he would make CNBC the preeminent business channel, and MSNBC could fire most everyone and he could rehire conservatives to knock FOX down a peg.
Greta is available and he could hire RUSH for the 8pm hour.
Fox’s great move was to position themselves slightly to the right of the others; half the country went to them while the other half was split between half a dozen news stations.
But honestly I don’t want a “slightly right of the others” news source, I’d like an honest one that went after stories that matter, and makes at least an effort to be objective. Give me information. Let me do the analysis.
I haven’t watched Fox in years, frankly. I just don’t watch TV news.
Trump gets a network.
*************
But not for long. Hillary would squash it within one year. If she is elected, all things conservative are going to feel the heat. She will rule by executive order, and the Republicans will let her do it.
That is why Faux News is fighting Trump.
Trump News would CRUSH Fox and CNN
I could go for either choice. There's plenty of ground for a non-biased (fat chance, but let's dream) news outlet and it could swipe viewers from both sides of the spectrum.
I might also draw away some of the annoying on-air talent -- or it might draw the good people and leave the annoying ones. Who knows.
I can't think of why they'd even be thinking of it unless they think Trump will lose and this is a fall-back position.
Fox News is dead already. Trump News would just give us a place to land. Right now we got nuthin’.
FOX Expats! I like it! Get Lou Dobbs first thing on the new Trump News.
If a biased conservative news network was viable economically, there would be one.
Since it is not possible, there is none
Roger Ailes had the genius to create fair and balanced. That is as close as it will ever be
Even better! Go offshore. Call it Radio Free America. Innovate, adapt. Do not ever let the enemy shackle you in their box!
