Analysis: Rigged election claims may leave lasting damage

Donald Trump keeps peddling the notion the vote may be rigged. It’s not clear if he does not understand the potential damage of his words — or he simply does not care.

Trump’s claim — made without evidence — undercuts the essence of American democracy, the idea that U.S. elections are both free and fair, with the vanquished peacefully stepping aside for the victor. His repeated assertions are sowing suspicion among his most ardent supporters, raising the possibility that millions of people may not accept the results on Nov. 8 if Trump does not win.

The responsibilities for the New York billionaire in such a scenario are minimal. Trump holds no public office and has said he’ll simply go back to his “very good way of life” if he loses.

Instead, it would be Democrat Hillary Clinton and congressional Republicans, should they win, who would be left trying to govern in a country divided not just by ideology, but also the legitimacy of the presidency. …

Democracy in this election is a joke. Look how Bernie Sanders was treated in the Democrats primaries. Trump has gone this distance today only because he’s a world class fighter. American democracy deserves to be examined, ridiculed and challenged.

Trump is actually doing the country a great service by highlighting the voter fraud potential within the system

I’m not worried about Sanders; he was just a placeholder and he proved it with his being paid off and urging a vote for Hillary after he dropped out. He was part of the Democratic version of Kabuki theater.

“It’s not clear if he does not understand the potential damage of his words...”

Julie Pace is an idiot.

If the vote is rigged, and clearly hillary’s people intend it should be so, then the damage will be all done by her and her corrupt cronies.

Nice propaganda piece, Julie. Good job ignoring dozens of reports of election fraud over the last several decades.

Bear in mind that part of Trump's rigging assertion is directly on the media for their outright bias against him and for Her Heinous. It's not solely on the voting process.
The MSM like the idea of the vote rigging because they can make him sound like a sore loser, but they surely do not want his comments about their coverage getting out there.

Every one knows that it is not the vote that counts, it’s who counts the vote!

I would never have come to the conclusion that our elections are rigged on my own. /sarc

My heart just bleeds for them, it really does.

This whole article is premised on the idea that Trump could lose the election. LOL.

Blame the person speaking out! peddling the notion!, Oh my God how dare he! the potential damage of the truth coming out! His words are hurtful and may lead people to think this is true! And as far as caring..............

Lasting damage, indeed. At least since the beloved (by the media) Jack Kennedy stole the presidency from the hated (by the media) Richard Nixon, the Democrats have been stealing elections. If this finally gets exposed, the Democrats ability to steal elections will be damaged significantly.

That's fine with me.

Nary a mention of this type of rigging ...

Polls close, but can you believe I lost large numbers of women voters based on made up events THAT NEVER HAPPENED. Media rigging election!

Simple question: WHY do the Democrats want no voter ID? There plenty of patterns visible in past elections to put down the idea that anything Trump said is unsupported.

They refuse to implement any kind of voter ID program and then they wonder why the legitimacy of the election is questionable? And what about the fraud investigation in Indiana? Is that Trump’s imagination too?
