Countries Reach Landmark Deal to Limit Global Warming From Air Conditioners
Time ^ | 10/15/2016 | Justin Worland

More than 170 countries agreed early Saturday morning to limit emissions of key climate change-causing pollutants found in air conditioners, a significant step in the international effort to keep global warming from reaching catastrophic levels.

The deal reached in Kigali, Rwanda, comes after years of wrangling over HFCs—short for hydrofluorocarbons—and could on its own prevent a 0.5°C (0.9°F) rise in temperature by 2100. Scientists say such an achievement could be crucial to the goal laid out in last year’s Paris Agreement of holding global temperature rise below 2°C (3.6°F) by 2100. (snip)

“Adopting an ambitious amendment to phase down the use and production of hydrofluorocarbons—or HFCs—is likely the single most important step that we could take at this moment to limit the warming of our planet,” Secretary of State John Kerry said in Kigali, in remarks before the passage of the agreement. (snip)

Countries also agreed last month to a landmark measure, known as the ICAO Agreement, to cap emissions from international air transport. Greenhouse gas emissions from the aviation industry currently total about as much as those of Germany, not a small amount, and experts say that sum will grow as the world becomes even more mobile. (snip)

Still many experts say that international efforts have moved too slowly as research continues to highlight the scale and effects of global warming. Scientists say 2016 will top last year as the hottest year on record and, during some months, temperature rise already seemed to veer close to the 2°C benchmark.

Well, I contribute to global warming since my house blows hit air out to cool the interior.

Wasn’t “the ozone is being destroyed” meme already falsified?

This is just another way of raising cost to the poor. They will be without A/Cs. George Soros, Al Gore, obama, and hillary will have their A/C.

Air conditioning for me, but not for thee? The elites will get it, I’ll bet.

I am sure this will help after Obama manages to start a nuclear war in the Middle East, and the collapse of Western Europe with his Muslim invaders.

So glad to see Africans are willing to pay more for their air conditioners to save the earth less than 1 degree over the rest of the century

Now, next UN project is to put a bag over the sun

The greatest service these entities need to do is shut OFF the AC at the UN Building!

We pay for carbon taxes, there is no catastrophic climate change, higher taxes worked, higher taxes would be better. We pay a tax on carbon, there is catastrophic climate change, we didn’t pay enough soon enough and we need more taxes. We pay higher carbon taxes, there is an ice age, “the climate change we were looking for was cooling first, then overheating, we need much higher taxes or the seas will boil the minute this is over.”

Just less than $600 for a bottle of Freon this summer.

What next?

Great, get ready for a run on air conditioners not unlike incandescent light bulbs. I guess I should watch the sales and buy a couple and store them in the basement unopened.

If O’bastard is serious about this, he will start by banning air conditioning in all federal buildings. The government needs to lead by example.

This is a huge achievement. When natural cycles lead to lower temperatures it will be one of the many “accomplishments” of the environmental movement that “saved the planet”. And they will have a big PR issue they can use to harm society (mostly poor) in new ways.

The “leaders” of the movement understand this perfectly well. It’s why the Paris agreement that did ABSOLUTELY NOTHING was so important to have on record before temps start decreasing. In 2009 they wanted to use climate change to redistribute wealth (and make tons of money for carbon traders and raise tons of tax revenue). In Paris they gave up on that and just needed an agreement, any agreement, even if it was to do nothing as long as people didn’t find out what was in it. Redistributing wealth (and making money for the bankers and governments) will need to wait for the next “man-made disaster” and they can use this one as an example.
