It depends on where you live in Lake Cty. Lake Forest, Libertyville, Deerfield some parts of Gurnee are going to be expensive. Farther out west in the county, the taxes are a little lower, but getting worse each passing year.

Eh, comparing to state of IL perhaps higher test scores, but my school district in terms of total performance was fairly highly ranked...and nice, safe town too. Not sorry we came here.*

Actually I worked hard to make the move to DuPage County happen LOL new job, move, etc...but was worth living in IL for raising family/excellent education. Kids all did well and are doing well...educated, successful contributors ;)

*Now I just need to plot my escape plan from IL ;) and I am really not kidding about that!

Except the yankees don’t leave their liberal voting patterns behind when they move south. Bet he can be counted on to vote for higher taxes for rail transit, schools, etc.

You Democrats & Union supporters voted Democrat for years in Illinois-——I am 76 & I was raised in Wisconsin. I don’t remember any Republican running much in that state. I grew up hearing the jokes about ‘how many dead people voted for Mayor Daley yesterday’??

YOU are reaping your reward. You wanted free everything—and thought ‘someone else would pay for it.

Caterpillar & other companies re leaving or already have. Excessive taxation has driven them out.

What ever you do & where ever you go——Leave your ILLINOIS attitudes about getting ‘lots of stuff from the government’ behind you.

California has driven out a great number of people for a great number of reasons. Prop 13 was passed in 1978 because of outrageous property taxes. Now, Bond measures & FEES are driving people out of there again. Calif tells you ‘it is NOT a TAX-—it is a FEE’. How stupid do they think we all are??? And now-thee is a bill in the California legislature to BAN COW FARTS !!! Only way to do that is to BAN all DAIRY operations in the state....

There was a company in I think Modesto called ROADRUNNER. They make ‘SQUEEZE” machines. Those machines cost $240,000 new & are used in agriculture operations to move hay. I got hay on Wednesday & the squeeze picked up a stack of 68 bales, each weighing about 100 pounds & deftly moved the hay to my pallets for deposit. The operator did in minutes what would take hours to buck bales by hand.

The regulations in California drove that company completely out-—how many jobs went with that? Granted—not every voter owns a ‘squeeze’ but there are not very many voters who don’t use milk-—and large dairy operations use alot of hay each & every day of the year.

Oregon, Washington State & other western states don’t need them. I live rural and have since 1993.. The city idiots want paved roads-—sidewalks-—street lights-—and a deputy to babysit them, since they WILL NOT protect themselves in any manner whatsoever.

They drive me nuts. They also vote Democrat in elections-—so you get LOCAL officials who spend money like water, and all the way to the White House.

I live in N Nevada. The Legislature was called into a special session to vote on the proposed stadium in Las Vegas for the Raiders to move from Oakland. Oakland won’t spend money to ‘build a new stadium’.

The full cost of the stadium is $1.9 BILLION (before the cost overruns happen) for a 65,000 seat stadium. That is over $29,000 per seat to build!!!

The Nevada legislators voted for $750 million to come from taxpayers-—which is over $11,000 per seat!!!

Believe me-—Elko & Denio & Battle Mountain & Winnemucca won’t get a single penny from people visiting that stadium in Las Vegas!!! It is a boondoggle.

Also- another big push is on here in Nevada—state wide. The politicians have sought more companies to come here, which means more jobs, which brings more people & families here. Why is that a problem you say?

Well, Nevada has NEVER had an abundance of water. Irrigation water has been adjudicated since 1852 and is guarded carefully. So-—developers have been promised water for their company buildings & for the thousands of houses (calling for 40,000 new residences) which are needed for the new employees coming here.

The solution? The state Water Committee is recommending that every single DOMESTIC WELL in the state of Nevada might get a ‘curtailment’ of their water which came with their properties. OUR water allotment is called an ‘appurtenance’ and cannot be removed in any way from my deed or property. I cannot sell any of it—trade any of it or give any of it away. We now have 2 acre feet of water to use—and to use for trees—flowers—minimal landscaping—food gardens—and for our DOMESTIC LIVESTOCK. I don’t know anybody here who owns a lawn mower—no lawns. We bought larger parcels in rural areas to have those animals. The proposals are to cut such domestic wells from 2 acre feet to .50 (1/2) acre foot of water & to NOT allow ANY water usage OUTSIDE of the house-—no gardens—no trees—no flowers—NO LIVESTOCK of any kind or size. Not even a chicken. Such a change in our water allowance will drop the value of such properties to a VERY low level.

Such reduction of the property values is called “A TAKING” and the state would be legally responsible to PAY all of us for that loss. There are somewhere north of 50,000 domestic wells in Nevada. The loss of economic livestock usage would be devastating for all these rural landowners.

Anyway-—some of these actions can be traced to people from other states who want to do as they please without understanding the existing conditions in their new ‘land of opportunity’.

Don’t know how you voted for many years, IMO, we cannot be conservative enough when voting for ANY level of politician.

I hope you like Texas-—but don’t try to change it-—Don’t Mess With Texas.....

BTW- I own 5.58 acres here & it is all set up as a small horse breeding operation. My current taxes were under $680 for the year.

>>Basically the state owns your house and is charging you rent.

True just about everywhere. Needs to stop.

I thought it was bad where I live (and it is) but Illinois is even worse.
