Army Surplus Warehouse in Idaho Falls, Idaho is the best one I’ve been to.

Do you remember Looboyles in Tulsa?

Not a surplus store but great sporting goods. Just East of Downtown on 11th I think. They also had a store in the mall but the original one was better.

What a GREAT thread. There are some on the backroads of the Carolinas. Half-Tracks and all.

The Army surplus store in Tampa was nice, my dad bought a tent from a company that went out of business in the 1980s. Nice place it was...

I bought a Bushnell Custom 7X35 binocular at Looboyles. According to everything I had read they were about as good as one could get.

Well mine was not real good so I returned it and paid just $5.00 more for a Bausch & Lomb Zephyr which indeed was much better.

Looking back, I had just got a bad one as those old Bushnell Custom binoculars are still considered great binoculars. I later got another but in 7X50 and sure enough it was about as good as any.

I still have the Zephyr and it is still great. The focus has gotten very difficult to turn, probably due to dried grease but the optics are still first class.

Woops! DONG’S is on Admiral just west of YALE! Forty five years ago there used to be a real good gunsmith on the north side of the road. A PROFESSIONAL gunsmith.

If I remember correctly, there was no left turn on Yale at Admiral so I had to go north past by the graveyard to find a way to turn around and come back to Admiral and make a right turn.

Grew up in Dallas, TX, in the 70’s. There was a huge Surplus store right off of Interstate 30 near St Charles street, you could see it from the highway.

Some of my happiest memories were perusing the aisles and deciding what I could buy from the money earned mowing yards and clipping trees.

It's funny that when Old Navy came into being around 20 years ago, my nephew wanted to go to get some camo clothes for paint ball. I had to explain to him that it was a fake "Navy" store, just borrowing the name to sell designer crap.

The one in Fort Worth had showcases full of military memorabilia, badges, pins and awards.

It was like being in a candy store.

There used to be a cool military surplus store on Galveston Island, several stories tall.

I noted last time I went most of the clothing was from foreign militaries, which is lame. I do not desire Norwegian Autumn camo. Who does, really?

I heard (but can’t prove) that you could get a pallet that supposedly contained 10 disassembled military Harleys, but you might only get enough parts to assemble 5 or 6 complete bikes. Imagine what one of those pallets (unopened) would sell for today.

I have some ads from a company in Tennessee that sold White half-tracks. You could get them with or without the armored rear body, and a power steering kit was also available (and probably well worth it).
