The young men who attend St. Johns Northwestern Military Academy in Wisconsin know the names of the fallen.
Their names are recited every spring - young men, alumni, who gave their lives defending America.
Jack Albert, the president the military academy, believes the blood shed by his cadets make their campus sacred ground.
So when Albert learned that some of the high schools in their athletic conference were allowing students to disrespect the national anthem, he decided to draw a line in the sand.
To dishonor those men and their families by permitting any disrespect of the country they defended, especially on the Academys time honored fields of friendly strife, is in my opinion, unacceptable, Albert wrote in a letter to parents and alumni.
It is our expectation when teams visit our campus, proper etiquette and respect is rendered to the nations colors and the national anthem, he added.
And then - the military academy president dropped the bombshell:
It is my intention to halt any game with any team whose players or coaches decide to disrespect the colors of our nation or the national anthem of our country in any way, he informed the Academy family.
Finally! A school that's willing to take a stand for the red, white and blue!
"All of our cadets are taught to respect the United States of America," he said.
Their plan is to immediately halt the game and ask the opposing team to leave the field.
Albert acknowledged that such action would result in a forfeit, but he told me it was the right thing to do.
To go ahead and let somebody come in here on our sacred ground and denigrate what we are doing with a clear conscious I could not do that, Albert told me.
Parents, alumni and cadets overwhelmingly supported the decision.
Im not going to destroy what weve had in place here for 133 years, Albert told me. We have a program here and a standard here. My boys know that if they would do anything that disrespected the flag or anthem they would be dismissed.
May God bless the good men of St. Johns Northwestern Military Academy. Its nice to know there are still some young people who respect God and Country.
I am.
Any opposing player can now easily force them to forfeit.
“two generations that have NEVER lifted a finger to serve this Country”
Not entirely true. Many young Americans have served bravely in the Middle East going back to 1991. A broad brush cannot be painted on our nations young.
The Academy is playing the race card too, with a American-CHINESE cadet's face shining forth, front and center.
Just sayin'.
So very true.
THANK you.
I had friends who attended that school. Great place.
Yes. You are correct and I certainly do not wish to belittle their service and sacrifice. The percentage that have served, however, is very much lower than my generation and previous ones. I would guess 5% or less. The remainder just sit back and reap the rewards.
Thank God somebody is refusing to be intimidated by the PC Police.
NFL owners need to look at this.
If they don’t come up with the exact position soon and in this season they are done. If not now then slowly
This is the only acceptable position
Not to honor the military and the fallen as much as our country
People know this instinctively. A flag is a symbol which is primal going back to the beginning of time
Our flag, which is what the anthem is about, does not represent racism. Not any more than it represents abortion It represents the constitution and the country as founded.
The NFL by omission is in solidarity with these misinformed, over idolized boys using NFL uniforms (also very meaningful), time and property.
It is a mistake they will regret
Right you are. In fact, I can see opposing players planning such a thing ahead of time. Perhaps it would be better for the Academy to just demand that the offender leave the property. If he doesn't leave, have the cops treat the offender as a trespasser.
Nobody currently running for national executive office (POTUS, VPOTUS) has served in the military.
A small island of reason, patriotism and conscience in a sea of political correctness and societal lunacy.
I like this!
Yes, sadly I know. Trump went to a Military Prep School, but that is certainly not even close. On the other hand, Madam Hillary Benghazi has expressed on numerous occasions, her disdain for the military, and of course sports a record of having abandoned personnel under fire for political expediency.
Reminds me of when Rice University Cheer Leaders stepped on some "sacred" part of Kyle Field and an Aggie (Texas A & M) cadet held the Rice cheer leader on the ground at bayonet point. Kicked up quite a fuss in Texas in the 1970s. I wish I had that picture, but that was before the Internet and it doesn't seem to be around any more. Unfortunately the aggie Cadet got suspended, but everybody in Texas was in his corner.
And just so you know, Asians can be Americans too, without any hyphenation. Just sayin'.
So, can Mexicans, Central/South Americans, Africans, etc. When I was teaching my department chair INSISTED on hyphenating me a "Mexican-American." I STRONGLY objected saying that it was WRONG to so blatantly "show me off." She still did it.
When the men's and women's departments merged into one the full timers chose the MALE department chair because NO one like her.
I got SICK TO DEATH of all the "just sayin'" crap because it WAS P.C. garbage. This man HAPPENED to be Chinese but I SERIOUSLY doubt, out of ALL the cadets, that there were NO OTHER minorities worth the photo. Would he have been the ONLY minority? No black or obvious Hispanics (whatever they would look like)?
It is so contrived.
Re: “It is so contrived.”
The only thing contrived is your entire argument. There is absolutely no “real” evidence that the cadet was chosen because of his ethnicity. It is based solely on your personal opinion, and derived from your own beliefs and prejudices and projected onto this incident.

Also, check out his stripes and the plume on his helmet.
He is part of the ‘honor guard’ or a Class leader.
Even back in ‘my day’ we had Recruit CPOs & POs based on merit, leadership & ‘smarts’.
Then again we do have those that would ‘biatch’ if we hung them with a NEW rope.
