Most Americans Think Government's Too Big, So Why Are They Backing Hillary?

Election 2016: A new Gallup poll finds that most Americans think the government "is doing too much." At the same time, various other polls show that voters are likely to hand the White House over to Hillary Clinton, who wants to vastly expand the size and scope of government. Go figure.

For more than two decades, Gallup has been asking the public whether the "government is trying to do too many things that should be left to individuals and businesses" or "should do more to solve our country's problems."

Its latest poll shows that 54% agree with the former, while just 41% agree with the latter. If you look at the long-term trend, this is one of the most consistent findings you will see in national polling.

Only three times in the past 26 years has the share who thinks the government does too much dipped below 50%...

...reflects a counteraction to perceptions that the two Democratic presidents were oriented toward increasing the government's role,"...

...tax hikes on the rich raise only a little more than half of what would be needed to pay for her spending proposals.

And...

...Donald Trump hasn't exactly been a model of small-government conservatism. He wants to spend twice what Clinton proposes on infrastructure; avoid making any changes to Social Security, Medicare and other entitlements; and has talked about the need for universal health care. But at least Trump talks about tax reform and a regulatory rollback.

Before November, voters need to ask themselves why, if they really think government is too big and does too much, they should vote for a candidate who promises to make today's obese government seem anorexic by comparison.

Apparently the long term plan to dumb down Americans into majority blithering f@tards has been largely successful. There is still hope IMHO however. Trust in God, not man...

“Public schools.”

You’re entirely correct. From a very young age, people have been mis-educated about what big government means. They are erroneously taught that subjects such as “climate change”, “diversity”, and “we are a land of immigrants” come free of charge. In essence, these concepts are taught as inherently moral “values” (as if listed in the Ten Commandments) and not accurately as high-priced commodities that necessarily grow government size and power and compromise our freedom.

Like their parents, they always pull the D lever. That way they don’t really have to think about it. You might hear an occasional ‘That ain’t right’ about something, but it never translates into trying to change anything.

“Most Americans Think Government’s Too Big, So Why Are They Backing Hillary?”

Because subconsciously they know she will get the government to massively shrink. How? By getting us into the nastiest nuclear war possible, so by the time it’s over, there will be no government left.

Her war mongering in the middle east is a good example. I see Syria as a place for it to start. I can think of no reason to be there. If she gets in, she will keep poking the big bear with a sharp stick until it happens.

She’s a complete nut job. At least Hitler and others had their military machines built up before they launched massive wars. The left has done their best to neuter our military and cut it back and to wear it out in one phony war after another. This is such a suicidal strategy.

Hitler knew he’d be toast if he lost the war, really, it’s just common sense. If this witch (Hitlery) gets us into a losing war, doesn’t she know the winner will come after her with extreme vengeance?

obama wants to destroy the country from within, she wants to destroy it from the outside. People, we are in deep dog poop if she gets the top job.

Doesn’t have to be most voters. Blacks are 13 percent and that’s ALL many care about. or they wouldn’t vote 19 to 1 against republican presidents.

Feminists will vote for a killer if he/she supports abortion.

clinton is INCREDIBLY unlikable yet now even the Daybreak poll has her ahead.

With the media doing sorties 24/7, that makes it difficult for trump.

Most people want the government to be real small...except for themselves.

That makes sense, or maybe what they're saying is "not just yet..."

Because frankly most Americans are selfish enough to tolerate unreal levels of cognitive dissonance on this issue.

In the abstract do I think government is too big? Yes.

But by gawd, you had better not dare lay a finger on MY favorite program!!

Over the last 100 years, and especially the last 50, the American voter has been systematically conditioned to believe that the Federal government is a benefactor and a force for good. When in fact, the opposite is true. The driving force within the current federal government is selfish, corrupt and evil.

Union's, academia, media and corrupt individuals within government have linked up and conspired to take complete control and have absolute power over the citizenry. Their goal is a communist state, with them at the top, living off the spoils, and enjoying the power they crave.

Strong leadership on our side is the only antidote and hope against them. It may eventually come down to war, if we don't take back and right the institutions they've infiltrated and now control.

Yep. I’d add that if you cut the Federal government back to it’s Constitutional limits tomorrow, most FReepers would soil their pants.

“White liberal elites get the cake - the black underclass that props up white liberal elites get crumbs - - crumbs they don’t have to pay for....”

That is simply Trickle Down without the individual initiative, personal responsibility, or sustained effort.

cognitive dissonance

They might prefer to call it "realpolitik".   Like the way a lot of freepers say they want smaller gov't and don't mind when Trump calls for twice as much spending on "infrastructure".  I mean, like a lot of folks will just shrug and say "hey, this is all we got to work with".

Crumbs aren’t ‘trickle down’... it’s NOTHING MORE THAN a way to keep blacks dependent, grateful and ON THE PLANTATION.
