A third of young adults cannot change a lightbulb while a quarter admit they cant even boil an egg, according to a survey.
The research among 25 to 34 year olds many of whom still live with their parents appears to show they are losing the skills older generations took for granted, as 77 per cent say they couldnt fix a bike puncture and 68 per cent cant wire a plug.
And, surprisingly, newer technology leaves many stumped as well, with 23 per cent admitting they cant use a washing machine while 41 per cent wouldnt know how to connect a blu-ray player to a TV.
Many of those surveyed by Poundland also admitted they couldnt hang a picture, put a new washer in a dripping tap, decorate a room or iron a shirt or blouse.

Just because a person is older it does not follow that they know how to do things.
My mom likes to tell about her cousin who was asked by grandma to "stuff the chicken". She looked at the fresh killed chicken and said, "I can't stuff it, it's already full!"
Or toilet paper.
You’re right!
Some of my neighbors use one!
I have a hard time believing this one.
Just exactly what is a light bulb?
HAHAHAH thank you very very much, love those guys and laughed so hard I cried, totally forgot about this! But may not have been in a very ‘repaired’ state when I first saw it :) Thank you again.
Speaking of clueless millennials, a few years ago my son’s college friend had a blank dial watch, just hands with no numbers or marks.
Another college kid asked him “how does that watch tell you the time?”
Great idea...the more they can learn to do themselves, the less they’ll spend as adults because they won’t have to call a repairman every time something goes wrong.
Tell the Eloi that the Morlock are on their doorstep, and are ravenous.
Recent topic posting in forum concerning retaining manufacturing in the US, brought up the problem that soon there will be none left to pass down their experience of how to get things done. Textbooks alone are never sufficient.
What I love are the new ‘dinner in a box’ services you see advertised. You get stuff like seasoning, a starch, some veg, and meat and instructions.
So, not only are you too lazy to do a weekly shop for yourself, you can’t even be arsed (British term, I like it) to 1) learn by doing, 2) get a cookbook, or 3) look up a recipe on the internet.
I like to order stuff and have it on my doorstep. I have ordered food, but I’ll be d....d if I’m going to order whole meals when the grocery store is a few blocks away.
“Most plugs cant be rewired.”
Huh?
“Three. One to hold the bulb, and two bulky dykes to rotate the ladder...”
The term is...Bull Dyke.
“There is currently a segment on some show that does the same thing...”
Watters World.
“Jesse Watters is an American political humorist and commentator, on the Fox News Channel. He frequently appears on the O’Reilly Factor and is known for his on-the-street interviews, featured in his segment of the show, “Watters’ World”.”

I have been a DIY guy for years.
For some reason, your comment jogged my memory about that skit. I’m glad you enjoyed it, and that it made you laugh.
That I do all the time. Noodles are a staple.
