Samsung to Permanently Discontinue Galaxy Note 7 Smartphone
Move halts production and sale of defective premium phone; investors digest possibility smartphone giant could abandon Galaxy Note series

SEOUL— Samsung Electronics Co. said Tuesday that it would permanently discontinue production and sales of its embattled Galaxy Note 7 smartphone, pulling the plug on a premium product whose botched recall has brought headaches to consumers and inflicted damage on the Samsung brand.
Samsung said in a filing with South Korean regulators that it would permanently cease production and sales of the device, following a string of reported incidents in which supposedly safe replacements of the premium smartphone overheated and in some cases caught fire.
“Taking our customer’s safety as our highest priority, we have decided to halt sales and production of the Galaxy Note 7,” the company said.

Might be a buy again some day. But it ain’t now.
They have their hands in a lot of products so i dont think they’ll go under.
But they’re down 8 percent right now and Apple could gain nicely from this.
Maybe this will give HTC a chance. They really make great stuff.. And Taiwan, not red china stuff. (probably made there anyway, but the company..)
That is true. However, the smart phone is their flagship product. Most of company's fat profit is said to come from this product. They have been shedding "non-essential" companies selling them off to other corporations. Maybe they change their mind, and hold onto some of "less sexy" products. In toay's high-tech IT business, it takes only one bad move to go under. Nokia is a prime example. An one-product company, which went down fast.

What worries me the most is Samsung’s legal battle over patents with Apple, now going to SCOTUS.
Breibart Radio this morning had someone on breaking down the ramifications brilliantly.
If Apple wins, it opens the precedent for any large corporation to sue any company, large or small, claiming “patent infringement”.
Most of these companies won’t want a long drawn out suit, will most often agree to a settlement to the larger plantiff. The large company, if it loses, won’t be impacted much if it does indeed lose in the end.
And left’s not forget which political party is tight with Apple.....

The sad thing about all this is that there is no other phone that compares with the Note line. I have had three of them. After having one you would never want to go back to the being chained to I-Tunes and the restrictions of the Apple OS.
I was just getting ready to skip the 5 and purchase a 7 but I think I will just stay with my 4 for a while longer. With the Samsung phones you can flash the ROM and put the 7 OS on it anyway so I think that is what I will likely do. I like the removable flash card and battery anyway.

I bought a new washer and dryer of theirs and within a few years the washer stopped working. It was just out of warranty so they offered to fix it for almost what a new one would cost.
I told them to shove it and resolved to never buy another Samsung product again which is saying something since I had become quite brand-loyal until then. When the G7 started exploding I felt like I dodged a bullet-or was it a bomb...
I was walking into a pub last night that’s next to an AT&T store. Guy was locking the doors as I walked by.
I pointed at the large Note 7 poster hanging from the ceiling behind the front window and laughed. He thought I wanted something, so he opened the door back up and stuck his head out,
“Can I help you?”
“No, just having a laugh over that!” < pointing>
“Oh, yeah!”

That’s what they get for going the iPhone route and taking away the removable/replaceable batteries.
My Galaxy Note 2 was great—but LG has the better solutions now for those who want to swap in and have a fresh battery.
The Note 4 was the last one I would buy.
After that the overall performance was inadequate for my use.
Many think the real culprit was the way Samsung implemented the USB Type C connector technology on this phone, which made vulnerable to battery overheating. If Samsung had stayed with the older Micro USB connector, it's likely that the Galaxy Note 7 wouldn't be suffering all the battery issues.
Last week I upgraded from LG G3 to a Samsung S7 Edge.
Absolutely awesome in every attribute.
BTW, the S7/S7Edge has USB C connector with zero problems.
I love the “Fast Charging” technology.
I pre-ordered my Note 7 and have been happy with it. When I first heard of the fire issue, I made sure all of my chargers were lower amperage. I use my USB type C cord and my wireless chargers all running off of old school chargers. So far no issues.
I got my phone on a lease from the carrier and was in their store 8-10 times over the past month asking about replacements and where I sat on their list of customers waiting.
Now I am going to wait it out. Today, I will just accept my Note 7 as is and enjoy it.
In other news Samsung is annoucing the new Note 8, with new and exciting features such as onboard fire suppression.
