The state of Vermont and the cities of Denver and Phoenix joined the growing list of places celebrating Native Americans on the federal holiday named for Christopher Columbus.
Since Columbus Day 2015, at least 14 communities in the United States have passed measures designating the second Monday in October Indigenous Peoples Day.

Which is why we honor Columbus... for all his faults & sins, he was the first to return and spread the knowledge of the Western Hemisphere. Everybody before him either dropped off the edge of the earth (figuratively speaking) or returned keeping it more or less secret (Norse).
First Immigrants Day is more accurate.
I prefer SiberoAsian-Americans for them.
