Poll: Catholics Support Hillary Clinton, Gay Marriage
National Catholic Review ^ | Aug 25 2016 | Michael O'Loughlin

Posted on 10/08/2016 5:02:00 AM PDT by daniel1212

More than half of all U.S. Catholics (52 percent) would cast a vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton if the election were held today, compared to just 32 percent for Republican Donald J. Trump...

More than three in four (76 percent) non-white and Hispanic Catholics would pick Clinton, with 13 percent choosing Trump.

Among white non-Hispanic Catholics, Clinton holds a much smaller lead, 44 percent to 41 percent....

Six in 10 (62 percent) white evangelicals say they would vote for Trump today, while 47 percent of white mainline Protestants pick Trump.

That comes from a new survey by the Public Religion Research Institute, whose findings mirror a similar poll conducted earlier this summer by the Pew Research Center.

Trump’s trouble with Catholic voters was foreshadowed during the primary season, when a group of reliably conservative Catholics urged their fellow believers in the Republican Party to resist Trump, even after he had all but sewn up the nomination.

Those concerns were renewed this week when The Hill reported on comments made by the newly tapped C.E.O of the Trump campaign, Stephen Bannon. The former head of the conservative website Breitbart News had accused the Catholic Church of supporting immigration reform only to boost its own membership.

“I understand why Catholics want as many Hispanics in this country as possible, because the church is dying in this country, right? If it was not for the Hispanics,” he said in March during a radio interview with Princeton University Professor Robert George..

Nearly seven in 10 (68 percent) of U.S. Catholics say they support same-sex marriage, up from just 35 percent in 2003. At the same time, Catholics are about split when asked if support for same-sex marriage goes against their religious beliefs (45 percent say that it does)... of the Catholic “Never Trump” movement.

About six in 10 Catholics (63 percent) say businesses should not be allowed to refuse services to gays and lesbians based on religious objections.

When it comes to how friendly religious institutions are to L.G.B.T. people, Catholics think better of their church than the American public does. Almost half of all Americans consider the Catholic Church to be “somewhat or very unfriendly” to L.G.B.T. people, with 35 percent seeing the Catholic Church as friendly.

The numbers are switched for Catholics, with 49 percent saying the church is friendly and 45 percent who say it is not.

While U.S. bishops have made fighting same-sex marriage a priority for several years, just 37 percent of Catholics report hearing the issue discussed by their priest in the past few months.

They are Catholic. We've been told once a Catholic always Catholic.

This is not a new voting pattern for the Catholic either.

Since 1952 Catholics have voted in the majority for the dimocrat in all but three presidential elections.

And I have met some conservative Catholics.

A handful of them.

I can literally count on one hand the number I have met.

Then go find even one poll and demographic voting record which testifies to the contrary of Catholics being overall liberal, or almost a majority as being so. Start with her own poll, or here by the grace of God.

Cease from the vain attempts to dismiss such as a result of bias.

They will hear: “Depart from me you workers of iniquity! I never knew you!!” (Matthew 7:23) Their faith is in vain and they will be cast into hell.

*French king controled catholics

Regardless, this is papal teaching stating the duty of all, not simply French kings or people. And to which more can be added in conformation.

It is, but I think that is true for almost any denomination or religion out there.

Sadly, some, perhaps many or even a majority, do not understand or have not been instructed in or simply choose to ignore the teachings of their own Church. When I was a catechist and we would be discussing issues of ethics and morality, this subject would always come up. I would reference John Paul II's Evangelium Vitae, which is particularly brilliant in its analysis and condemnation of abortion, e.g.,

"Among all the crimes which can be committed against life, procured abortion has characteristics making it particularly serious and deplorable. The Second Vatican Council defines abortion, together with infanticide, as an 'unspeakable crime.' "

I know many condemn VCII for other things, but on this point it is particularly lucid and unwavering.

I don't disagree with any of the statistics cited here, but they are very misleading because they involve polls of self-identified participants instead of using an objective barometer. If you filter out of the poll anyone who doesn't engage in a modicum of Catholic practice (only include those who attend Mass weekly, for example), the numbers change dramatically.

This poll doesn't show that American Catholics are overwhelmingly Democratic and support outrageous liberal causes. It shows that most American Catholics aren't even Catholic.

So 50 years after opening the Church windows to the spirit of the world at Vatican II, survey says Catholics hold same values as heathens and atheists.

Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them. (Matthew 7:20)

Here is the letter that Donald Trump sent to CatholicVote.org. Click here to see the original letter in PDF form.

Brian Burch
President, CatholicVote.org
P.O. Box 259837
Madison, WI 53725

October 1, 2016

Mr. Burch,

Thank you for writing me on the critical issue of religious freedom and the growing concerns of Catholic voters. Like you, I understand the many ways this issue impacts millions of Americans, especially those cared for by Catholic hospitals and charities or students educated in successful Catholic schools today. Religious freedom is our First Freedom, and it must be respected.

Our current president has not respected American’s First Amendment rights. Many believe he has declared a war on Catholics. And my opponent promises to be even worse!

I grew up in New York City. I have tremendous respect for the role of the Catholic Church in helping build New York, as well as other cities and communities across the country. Dedicated Catholic priests and religious leaders have built hospitals, schools, churches and charities while Catholic workers helped build our roads and bridges and started countless thriving businesses.

As President, I promise that I will protect the rights of Catholics to live their faith, to serve their communities, and to act on their beliefs without fear. This approach one would think is just common sense. And I don’t care if people call it politically incorrect.

The priorities that the next President will need to establish are not known at this time. Protection of the nation and its citizens must come first. Getting the economy back on track must be near the top of the list. Preserving and protecting the rights of our citizens must also be in the mix. If Congress considers legislation such as the First Amendment Defense Act or the Conscience Protection Act a priority, then I will do all I can to make sure it comes to my desk for signature and enactment.

Very respectfully,
Donald J. Trump

This passage from Romans 1 (16-32) reflects where the state of many professing Christians of all sects are today. Many of them can be considered to be unbelievers as they have descended into being self seeking reprobate apostates.

16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel; it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who has faith, to the Jew first and also to the Greek. 17For in it the righteousness of God is revealed through faith for faith; as it is written, ‘The one who is righteous will live by faith.’*

18 For the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and wickedness of those who by their wickedness suppress the truth. 19For what can be known about God is plain to them, because God has shown it to them. 20Ever since the creation of the world his eternal power and divine nature, invisible though they are, have been understood and seen through the things he has made. So they are without excuse; 21for though they knew God, they did not honour him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking, and their senseless minds were darkened. 22Claiming to be wise, they became fools; 23and they exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling a mortal human being or birds or four-footed animals or reptiles.

24 Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the degrading of their bodies among themselves, 25because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshipped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever! Amen.

26 For this reason God gave them up to degrading passions. Their women exchanged natural intercourse for unnatural, 27and in the same way also the men, giving up natural intercourse with women, were consumed with passion for one another. Men committed shameless acts with men and received in their own persons the due penalty for their error.

28 And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a debased mind and to things that should not be done. 29They were filled with every kind of wickedness, evil, covetousness, malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, craftiness, they are gossips, 30slanderers, God-haters,* insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, rebellious towards parents, 31foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. 32They know God’s decree, that those who practise such things deserve to die—yet they not only do them but even applaud others who practise them.

The past voting patterns of Catholics in presidential elections back to 1952 show overwhelming support for the dimocrat nominee for president.

Even that statement is meaningless because the Democrat Party today isn’t the same political party as the Democrat Party of 1952. To put this in the right context ... How many people are even aware that the first state law permitting abortion on demand was signed by a REPUBLICAN governor?

With Catholics, the breakdown should always be daily mass goers, weekly mass goers and the rest. I know people who identify as Catholic and haven’t gone to church in years. I think support for abortion, gay marriage etc., increases the less someone participates in mass and other sacrements.

Irrelevant as catholic voting patterns have been consistent at the presidential level since 1952. That’s the issue.
