Poll: Catholics Support Hillary Clinton, Gay Marriage
National Catholic Review ^ | Aug 25 2016 | Michael O'Loughlin

Posted on 10/08/2016 5:02:00 AM PDT by daniel1212

More than half of all U.S. Catholics (52 percent) would cast a vote for Democrat Hillary Clinton if the election were held today, compared to just 32 percent for Republican Donald J. Trump...

More than three in four (76 percent) non-white and Hispanic Catholics would pick Clinton, with 13 percent choosing Trump.

Among white non-Hispanic Catholics, Clinton holds a much smaller lead, 44 percent to 41 percent....

Six in 10 (62 percent) white evangelicals say they would vote for Trump today, while 47 percent of white mainline Protestants pick Trump.

That comes from a new survey by the Public Religion Research Institute, whose findings mirror a similar poll conducted earlier this summer by the Pew Research Center.

Trump’s trouble with Catholic voters was foreshadowed during the primary season, when a group of reliably conservative Catholics urged their fellow believers in the Republican Party to resist Trump, even after he had all but sewn up the nomination.

Those concerns were renewed this week when The Hill reported on comments made by the newly tapped C.E.O of the Trump campaign, Stephen Bannon. The former head of the conservative website Breitbart News had accused the Catholic Church of supporting immigration reform only to boost its own membership.

“I understand why Catholics want as many Hispanics in this country as possible, because the church is dying in this country, right? If it was not for the Hispanics,” he said in March during a radio interview with Princeton University Professor Robert George..

Nearly seven in 10 (68 percent) of U.S. Catholics say they support same-sex marriage, up from just 35 percent in 2003. At the same time, Catholics are about split when asked if support for same-sex marriage goes against their religious beliefs (45 percent say that it does)... of the Catholic “Never Trump” movement.

About six in 10 Catholics (63 percent) say businesses should not be allowed to refuse services to gays and lesbians based on religious objections.

When it comes to how friendly religious institutions are to L.G.B.T. people, Catholics think better of their church than the American public does. Almost half of all Americans consider the Catholic Church to be “somewhat or very unfriendly” to L.G.B.T. people, with 35 percent seeing the Catholic Church as friendly.

The numbers are switched for Catholics, with 49 percent saying the church is friendly and 45 percent who say it is not.

While U.S. bishops have made fighting same-sex marriage a priority for several years, just 37 percent of Catholics report hearing the issue discussed by their priest in the past few months.

I also tell them you can no longer be a Catholic and a Democrat, only one or the other. (I’m very popular!/s)

Since the Roe vs Wade decision in 1973, it has been true that you cannot be a Democrat and a Catholic at the same time. But, like Kaine, people parse their loyalties thinking that they can be both.

They will judge themselves when the time comes.

Priests were never molesting children left and right fool, statistically children are much safer from molestation from priests than just about any other group that deals with children. You have allowed the left to brainwash you against God.

And no crimes happen with Protestant pastors? No institution consisting of humans will be free of sin...even one that was made by Jesus(it was He who founded the Catholic Church).

That's not the issue.

The thing that non-Catholics and even many Catholics I have talked to, object to is not only the lack of action by the Catholic church but also they being complicit in the crimes by hushing it up and moving the priests around to other areas on unsuspecting victims.

They essentially did nothing more than watch the door while they knew what was going on behind it.

Virtually every case I've seen involving non_Catholic ministers involves words like, *charged*, *jail*, *removed from office*, *relieved of responsibility*, not *Once a priest, always a priest.*

Nor this one!

Sadly there is at least ONE Knight of Columbus in our parish who will vote “straight Dem ticket” - will be praying for his soul.

Trump on his worst day is better than intrinsic evil on a “good” day.

I am a Catholic and many of the “catholics” I know here in NJ are supporters of Hillary. Then again, many of those “catholics” are divorced and remarried; they have no fear of Hell.

The Catholic hierarchy in the West has failed miserably...

Saw an anti abortion sticker on one side of the bumper and an Obama sticker on the other side on a car parked for Sunday Mass up the street from me

Democrat committee man is very active in the church and he is a big Hillary backer

People never fail to amaze me

So 50 years after opening the Church windows to the spirit of the world at Vatican II, survey says Catholics hold same values as heathens and atheists.

Inrlteresting. This means that any pastor who opposes a pro-gay Vatican is deemed a heretic. The catholics are thus hired and recruited by Marxists for a one world religion to restart extermination planks by the French King controles carholics.

This is much in line with the Pope talking with Imams who are not genuine personal thinkers of the Koran but people at the order of the Saudi King

This means that they are turning catholicism into a religion of spies at the boot of secular government convenience, much like Suni Islam or the Soviet Orthodox Church

They are not Catholic, they only think they are Catholic, they like the cache and the smug, self-reasoned, satisfaction of ‘being Catholic’ among their ‘Catholic’ peers.

As long as they keep the collection baskets overflowing, they are granted "Catholic in good standing" status. Religion (all religion) is a man-made farce that allows folks to "rationalize" what God's real intentions for us are.

Buffalo and the Western MY area is HIGHLY Catholic, with huge Irish, Italian, Polish, and now Hispanic communities, and has been as liberal and corrupt as it comes for DECADES.

And the Catholic church there is absolutely no better. Some of what FRoman Catholics consider their worst leaders have been in that area.

I certainly believe these poll results because it fits with everything I know about Catholicism and the Catholics I personally have interacted with.

I just saw you used the word ‘fool’ when referring to me. When you have to resort to name calling, you show that you have nothing else to stand on and have lost the battle.

Take your abuse elsewhere please.

While some FReepers rightfully point out that there are conservative Catholics out there, the simple fact is that Dem power bases are always centered around Catholic clusters.

This just blows me away. So, these folks would vote for a pro-abortion, pro-homosexual marriage, pro-transgender agenda?

Ok...so do they still received communion?
