It comes in waves. (pun intended)

You will see some gusts for a bit and then it dies down.
Surf looks rough.

This is the highest wind speed I’ve noted at this time from the weather stations.

That’s a fairly low pier in the background, cresting waves aren’t even hitting the underside of the pier decking. The surf itself is probably rough by their standards, but it would be normal in other locations like OBX.

I don’t mean to downplay the danger, here, but I don’t see any on that webcam, other than possible rip currents and undertow for those adventurous surfers.

So true.

Unfortunately they shipped them into Atlanta and then when the Millennials moved in to the inner city, they all scattered like roaches in the light.

My wife’s favorite line: “Yankees in Georgia! How did they ever get in?”

Of course they will spin it.

The hurricane has made a complete loop & is anticipated to be exactly where it is right now.

Pingy-dingy

So how far above sea level are you, anyway? Here’s hoping you and yours ride this out safe and sound.

I don’t see anything major. As you know, being on the beach during high winds will sandpaper you to death. They are not getting that yet.

That's how it is here in central PA too. you can build a deck without a BUILDING permit, if none of it is more than 20” above ground. You still have to have a zoning permit though, so they know you are only putting it where you are allowed. Plus, it gives them a record of everything. The state is creating a state-wide GIS map, so they can know where everything is on their property, because that's how they interpret being a Commonwealth - it's all really theirs and we are just allowed to use it, when they approve.

Takes a stiffer breeze than they’re currently getting to pick up wet sand. Dry sand would be a different matter.

Most hurricanes end up being over hyped drizzle storms.

However, there are those rare storms that are the last place you ever want to be.

Camille, Betsy, Andrew in Miami, Ivan, Katrina in Mississippi.

Some of them are the last place you ever want to be, and if you are unfortunate enough to be there, there nothing you can do but hope you live.

General rule of thumb, if it’s a 3+, just go ahead and leave. It ain’t worth the risk.

I am in Volusia County just inland from Daytona. Going to be an interesting night. Have a flashlight and a radio with a battery. Been through Andrew (lived in South FL) and then moved to Central Florida and went through the 3 hurricanes of 2004. This is supposed to be the monster. We shall see

Well, when it gets to 65kts you will know it as the sand and palm fronds are whacking you as you roll down the beach.

This is the time to just listen to the roar they seldom have.

I just got off the phone with old friends in Southside Estates about 15 minutes from Jax Beach. They said they are having a rain storm but nothing to do with the hurricane. They said so far they are not seeing any bad weather.
