US National Weather Service Jacksonville Weather.gov/JAX@NWSJacksonville

The storm poses an imminent threat of tropical storm and/or hurricane conditions to SOME PORTION of the Warning area.

Heed the advice of Local officials. Be careful about rumors, erroneous social media posts and unwarranted speculation.

Major Hurricane Matthew Briefing Situation Overview

...THIS IS NOW A WORST CASE STORM SURGE SCENARIO...

Catastrophic Damage is Anticipated for Coastal Areas.

Major Hurricane Matthew is still expected to move DANGEROUSLY CLOSE the Florida First Coast and Southeast Georgia Coast Friday through Friday night into Saturday with catastrophic impacts expected along and near the coast.

A major hurricane has not impacted this area in 118 years, since October 2nd 1898. There is NO local living memory of the potential of this event. If a direct landfall occurs this will be unlike any hurricane in the modern era. . The western eyewall is expected to move along a portions of the coast with sustained winds 115 to 125 mph and gusts in the most affected areas! Winds will be higher in high rise structures in Downtown Florida possibly strong Category 4 to Category 5 intensity!

Some of the lowest barrier islands will be completely overtopped with large battering wave and life threatening flooding. Barrier islands are likely to breached and it is extremely possible that new inlets will be cut in the worst affected areas.

Please, Please heed the advice of public and emergency management officials. 40 people in New York and New Jersey did not heed these warning during Sandy and died in the storm surge! This will be a MUCH Greater surge than Sandy had along the New Jersey Shore!

I like the latest forecast - Matt was making landfall near Jupiter and I gots not shutters for my 2nd story windows!

I promise that in January I'll take the $$$ hit and install accordion shutters on the top windows.

My 2 kids will be ready with aluminum panels INSIDE the rooms to push furniture against the panels to fight against a hurricane. Yikes

Man against nature...man loses every single time.

Planned for the 100 yr. event...incoming event is a 500 yr. worst case scenario rainfall... phttt...we weren’t even a country back then!

This is going to be very, very bad and may be worse than a Katrina due to the longevity along the coast.

Gee, all those folks won’t be voting in their normal polling locations, likely no records to check against an absentee ballot...uh...let’s not let a crisis go to waste. /semi-sarcasm

Obama and team FEMA handle this well, it will throw the election. They handle it badly...?

Reminds me of a story I heard about testing the strength of airliner windshilds against geese by firing frozen turkeys from a “turkey canon”. Apparently the guys trying it at some facility said the windows didn’t stand a chance. The turkeys went right through them.

Eventually, the guys guiding them got the full skinny on how they were doing it. They reminded them that they need to thaw out the turkeys before firing them. :-)

I hope this kills all the sharks!

Nope...it'll bring them in by Monday to start eating all the idiots that didn't evacuate. Gators and raccoons ate good after Katrina IIRC.

Bank & companies have closed now.
Outer bands of Hurricane Matthew to be at Jacksonville 8:00 a.m. tomorrow.

I live inshore about 45 minutes - 1 hour from ocean/ 5 minutes from St. Johns River.

Evacuations have NOT been posted for us except for coastal areas. They expect high winds possible tornadoes for our area. One of the storm shelters has already reached capacity in the country East of us. They are issuing sand bags for our county. We are NOT in an evacuation zone for which I am thankful. My 96 year old mother is very difficult for me to transport. Thank the Lord, half the National Guard has been activated.

Well they are sure as hell are over-hyping this one. It's been awhile since the MSM has had storm to obsess on and they are REALLY taking advantage of this opportunity.

I just walked past the TV that had Shepard Smith on and he looked/sounded as if he was about to cry.

As I was turning the thing off, Shep looked pleadingly at the camera and said, "people are going to die" as they faded to a commercial.

At least I don't have to listen to how DJT hates the military because he wont pay more taxes than he owes any more.

No, I'm sure they'll still be plenty of lawyers in Florida after Matthew passes.

“I hope this kills all the sharks!”

Rather unlikely.

If tornadoes can’t kill them this could become... a Sharkicane!

You can watch how the winds currents are influencing Matthew.

"She wanted to tear up the patio and build a deck over the same area."

I live just north of Seattle, and the same thing happened to an adult home in my neighborhood. They built a ground level wooden deck in their front yard, so the residents could sit outdoors in nice weather, and the city made them tear it down for some reason. It appeared to be well off the property line.

A few years earlier, the city allowed the property behind me to be subdivided, and the back wall of one of the houses is only about six feet from my property line. The previous house was about fifty feet from the property line. Go figure.

The media has fallen back into panic mode to be followed by “if it bleeds it leads”.

Don’t worry—next week they will trot out the next hundred reasons why no-one but deplorables will vote for Trump.

Actually it will be the gators.

That’s a lot of gators.

An Orlando area man stopped to take the video because he’d never seen so many gators at once: http://bit.ly/2dkmCc0
