Hurricane Matthew Live Thread II
NOAA/NHC ^ | October 6 2016 | NOAA/NHC

Posted on 10/06/2016 4:10:09 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Matthew is big, bad and just downright scary, with iminent and sustained impacts to U.S. mainland. Florida Governor Rick Scott issued a state of emergency for all of Florida and disaster operations are activated. More than 1.5 million Floridians reside in current evacuation zones. Governor Scott has spoken with utilities across the state to ensure utilities are pre-positioned and there are no unmet needs. Multiple coastal hospitals have been evacuated. Meanwhile, feckless President Barack Hussein Obama is personally monitoring the progress of the storm.

This strafing of the Florida coast is going to cause the worst sort of erosion to the beaches and coastline environment. Better an Andrew that slams into one spot at 200 mph than what we will be seeing if the forecasts are correct.

The ones that slam right into the shore and go inland cause the storm to weaken considerably as the eye hits land but, in this case, the eye may not hit land for quite some time. It will just sit right offshore with the Atlantic ocean providing sustained fuel.

Trump has property down there so it is the perfect excuse for him to show up as soon as it is safe to so so with water, ice, bedding, etc to pass out and act presidential. This could be a major step for him if he plays it right.

The Gulfstream looks to be bathtub like and the high-pressure ridge to the east means no tail out to see reprieve this time. Worried, very worried for my family in So Fla.

It was a fairly small storm. I was watching the radar before it hit and the “red blob” was maybe a mile+ in diameter. There were people in my neighborhood who thought they saw signs of rotation in the damage done on their property. I have five maple, two crabapple, and a hawthorn tree and was lucky to have lost only a third of the hawthorn.

I'm praying for everyone in the path of this storm. Please take this seriously and make proper preperations. I'm very relieved to have learnmed that my sister and her family have evacuated from Daytona Beach this morning. They live just two blocks from the beach and they needed to get gone!

Prayers for all who have already suffered from Matthew's impact and praying for all those still in the path.

It’s a measurement of the barometric pressure, and it’s very low. Generally the lower the pressure the worse the storm.

FL will never go blue.

Florida did go blue in 2012 and 2008.

Amen. Much thanks to NN for running these threads for all of us. Those of us on the Gulf Coast side are extremely fortunate this time. Prayers up for all that will be in this path over next few days.

Utility company trucks already leaving the Ozarks for FL.

When Hurricane Isobel hit NC and VA we had catastrpohic power failures all over the state. Most of the state was without power for two weeks, some rural areas were still out two months later. we had power companies from all over the country here for over a month. I saw trucks from all the surrounding states as well as TX and MO. It was amazing.

My nephew is in Jax. He said they are evacuating the beach and then closing the bridge across the intercoastal waterway so nobody can get back on. Yesterday they were not letting anybody over the bridge unless they could prove they lived at the beach. Nephew is in Orange Park far from the beach but his employer sent everybody home yesterday and they are closing for 2 days. I guess all the big box stores are sold out of essentials already.

Expectation for Jax beach is 20 ft surge with waves going over the dunes.

“Bastardi predicted late last night (Wed) that he thinks this will hit Jupiter, FL as a Cat 4, then weaken as it heads up the coast.”

I am less than 10 miles S. of Jupiter and on the coast. I boarded up Monday and left for Ft. Myers on Wednesday. I am happy with my decision. Thanks to all of you (esp. NN) that add positive info on these pages!
