Hurricane Matthew
NOAA/NHC ^ | 1 October 2016 | NOAA/NHC

Posted on 10/01/2016 7:00:34 AM PDT by NautiNurse

Hurricane Matthew is big, bad and just downright scary, and we await the long anticipated sharp turn northward. Jamaica is completing final storm preparations. All interests in the Eastern U.S. and Bahamas should be carefully watching the track of Mighty Matthew.

Ripped straight from the NHC Discussion page:

Matthew remains south of a low-to mid-level ridge over
the western Atlantic. The dynamical models forecast this ridge to
weaken over the next 72 hours as a mid- to upper-level trough develops
over the Gulf of Mexico. This evolution should cause Matthew to turn
northwestward after 24 hours and northward by 48-72 hours. The guidance
generally agrees with this scenario. However, there is a spread between
the GFS forecast of landfall in Jamaica and eastern Cuba and the ECMWF
forecast landfall in southwestern Haiti. The guidance becomes more
divergent after 72 hours.

I’m not sure where he makes his home but he is all business. His history is phenomenal, one of a dozen kids.He excelled at everything. Credits his mother for being tough on him.
He supports only government that succeeds. The rest gets defunded. It works marvelously. He has reduced our debt, given us huge surpluses we paid down debt and basically the state is run it like a good business. We are lucky to have him.

I just ache for Haiti. They’ve had such a rugged road.

Don't worry, John Kerry and his bride Tuh-rayza Heinz will send another plane load of wool blankets to keep the survivors toasty warm in hot, humid and muddy Haiti after the storm has passed.

I worked in haiti one week a month for several years. I learned a lot, really great people at the time. Once they are around Americans for an extended time they tend to lose their values which were strong family and religious in nature.
Today they have over populated and suffered due to no management/gov. structure to rely on the country has gone way downhill.
They wanted freedom in 1984 but once they got it they didn’t have a clue what to do with it.

Because the Ton Ton Macoutes ran off what was left of Haiti's Middle Class.

How interesting , rodguy...sad history. I’ve read a bit about them since the earthquake..I remember when the Clinton Foundation got involved thinking Haiti’s going to get screwed again. Turns out that was true.

They’ve not really recovered after the earthquake. .and tonight is going to be bad.

In 84 the CIA had orchestrated a plan to fly Duvalier to France. He left around the 8th,my 40ty birthday was the 12th and i was there. The thinking was that the country would become completely democratic, have free elections, etc. etc.become a mini South Florida. Sorry, the never happened.

What did happen is that several million people who deserved freedom, justice and democracy got it with no leadership whatsoever and years later they are still trying to figure it all out.THe ton ton were just the latest to take advantage of the situation. More recently they have had true con-men raping and pillaging the country like the Clintons and many others.

What most don’t realize is into the 1950’s, Haiti was a fairly decent country, with a middle class, that was mostly mulatto. But of course the blacks, couldn’t stand to see their lighter-skinned brethren doing better off than they were, so you know, they let the machete become the great equalizer, and it’s been all downhill since then.

We're over here. It's a bit quiet tonight. Most of us are looking over our storm plans.

Looking more likely that my mother will need to be brought over from the E FL coast by Wed. morning.

Just moved down to NC coast, still don’t have insurance and my son tells me today that anything over a cat 3 and we’re evacuating to Raleigh,2 hours NW of us. On top of that this will be my first major hurricane. July just moved down from NY, but the last hurricane up there was more of a tv event for us. I’m scared shirtless.

Yes, from what I've seen of the projected path of Matthew in the next few days, that is wise. Do you think the Tampa area will be impacted at all by Matthew? (I realize Matthew is not projected to make a direct hit in TPA.)

Matthew strengthens; future track moves farther west, closer to Florida
by: Irene Sans Updated: Oct 4, 2016 - 12:33 AM

http://www.wftv.com/weather/hurricane-matthew-to-significantly-impact-parts-of-central-florida/451362781

(excerpt)

The storm could be over or very close to Florida as a major Category 3 hurricane on Thursday, packing maximum sustained winds between 115 and 120 mph.
“Matthew is expected to bring significant impacts to Central Florida, especially along the coast starting Thursday. Please, stay informed as conditions will be changing rapidly,” said Channel 9 Chief Meteorologist Tom Terry.
Hurricane Matthew is massive and will directly impact Florida. Depending on its proximity, the potential impacts could worsen or improve. The “cone of uncertainty” shows where the center of the storm could pass.
Residents and visitors need to take into consideration Matthew’s size.
The storm measures more than 700 miles from north to south, and more than 600 miles east to west.
Matthew’s wind field is extensive. Tropical storm-force winds extend more than 185 miles and hurricane-force winds about 40 miles from its center.
Matthew continues as a very strong Category 4 hurricane with maximum sustained wind speeds of 145 mph.
The storm is currently moving north at 7 mph. Pressure dropped Monday evening to 934 millibars, which could be a sign that it is strengthening.

Per Brian Shields (WFTV) on twitter:

Winds in Haiti are likely gusting over 150mph. This is catastrophic for Haiti.
