Only if he had Z rated tires. Other tires would have flown apart.

What’s wrong, he wasn’t cleared from the tower?

Damn, the passengers must have peddling too!

I understand visibility was good. He had visions of hell.

You might want to fact check.

The crew would have a hard time separating out the roadkill in that scenario.

A Dodge Neon can go that fast?

I would say not even down hill with a stiff tail wind but maybe he is a better mechanic then I am.

That was the first thing I thought of.

I used to drive a 1976 MG Midget, and got a speeding ticket where the officer said I was doing 85 mph.

I did 80 mph in that car once, and that was faster than it felt safe doing, never mind it was about pegged out.

"...Those ugly square Volvo's were a good platform..."

That may have been the motive; I never did figure out his overall deal.

His harness issues made him crazy.

Incidentally he took a photo of me that I put up on my FR homepage that was later used by anarchists in their attempts to identify and assault FReepers when we protested. This was about 2001. That effort by anarchists led to a massive scrubbing of personal photos from homepages at the time.

It isn’t really a Neon, its Rodney King’s high po Hyundi restored at Barris Studios.

How does one ‘turbo’ a Holley Six-Pack?

You’d have gasoline squirting out all over the place!

Heh, my old band teacher for my CYO band had a 1972 Cutlass 442 convertible with the four-on-the-floor, and one day he let five of us guys take it out to pick up lunch they were buying for all the band members. We were aged 15-17...no shirts, no shoes, summer day...

As we sat in the car starting it up, he leaned over and said "I don't want you guys laying any rubber."

I don't even think we were out of earshot...

SCREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

God rest that good man's soul. He probably grimaced in anger, then stopped and smirked to himself when he heard it...

Typical liberals. When I was with the DC Chapter counter-protesting Code Pink outside Walter Reed, they would have one of them (who looked drugged) walk along the parked cars, taking pictures of all the license plates, for who knows what purpose.

They suck.

On the Austin bypass we call 146 mph a leisurely drive.

I got up to 130 on the back of a motorcycle once, and it scared the crap out of me.

I also took my parents 1972 Greenbriar station wagon up to 120 on the day after Senior Prom, and I felt that was, in retrospect, not smart. The car had the power to do it, but it seemed to kind of...float, bobbing slowly up and down.

Yup, driven that too. 70, right? There's no easy way to get to the Outer Banks...

501 going into Myrtle would give both routes a run for their money. Miles and Miles of Flat Straight Nothing.

Do they just not monitor it?

The only one I’ll admit to was in the 70s, when I took my ‘65 Mustang 289 up to 100... and then backed off immediately because I thought the front suspension was going to disintegrate.

I’ve had better cars since then that are more capable, though...

in the 80’s I took a ‘67 Mustang (stock 289) to 115 on a country road. It started “floating”... suspension was NOT built for that. I wisely backed off... :)
