The Pennsylvania company that makes marshmallow Peeps as well as Mike and Ike candies has filed a federal lawsuit claiming a workers' strike is illegal.

Bakery, Confectionary, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union Local 6 workers walked off the job Sept. 7.

The lawsuit filed Wednesday by Just Born Quality Confections says that violates a no-strike provision of a contract that expired June 18. The company says the no-strike clause was still in effect until Sept. 18 under a contract extension.

They need to make PePe the frog candy also. Various colors.

Seems like a confectionery knockoff opportunity.

I like to roast peeps after dinner over the dying remains of a charcoal fire. Much better than standard marshmallows. The granulated sugar coating turns into a wonderful crunchy caramel.

Wondering about the technicalities here. Did the union vote to extend the old contract, or is this just riding without agreement? If there wasn’t any vote to extend the old contract, then sure they can walk out, but that should be the swan song for the union’s employment until an agreement is negotiated.
