It Was ‘a Mistake’: Obama Reacts to Congress Overturning His Veto on 9/11 Bill
Mediaite ^ | 9/28/16 | Sam Reisman

President Barack Obama expressed his disappointment on Wednesday with Congress, which voted overwhelmingly to overturn his presidential veto on a bill that would allow families of terrorist victims to sue foreign nations. The Justice Against Sponsors of Terrorism Act (JASTA) will allow the families of 9/11 victims to seek restitution by suing Saudi Arabia, where the vast majority of the hijackers hailed from. It passed Congress unanimously, but Obama had expressed his intention to veto it, which he did on Friday. The Senate voted Wednesday 97-1 to override Obama’s veto, and the House voted likewise 348-77, effectively passing the bill into

President dumbo,
the majority of this Nation’s legislators both of the people and the several states, say YOU are the mistaken one... and WE THE PEOPLE collectively just kicked your ass to the curb...

GET USED TO IT...
and make sure Hillary knows what it feels like... so in November, it doesn’t come as a shock to her.

You told your followers to bring a gun to a knife fight, this time the US Congress took your advice.

Your reply Makes sense. I think Obama gave the Pubbies a good head fake and they went for it. If he would have demanded a law that would result in the complete loss of soveregn immunity and therefore the eventual loss of sovereignty the Pubbies would have objected. So he tried it the other way.

Did the democrats all of sudden become ballsy and patriotic?

This law will reslut in the US government being sued and the liberals agreeing to pay. Note to everyone: ever hear of “sue and settle”? Your about toget it on a global basis.

Dont get me wrong i like Obama getting smacked but this was not the one to do it.

Shut up Obama. Shouldn’t you be having a “Moving Yard Sale” or something?

We shouldn’t be suing them, we should be blowing them up...confiscating their holdings and property, and we should “keep the oil”.

That is certainly something to consider. It’s suspicious when that many Dems vote for something patriotic.

It wasnt patriotic. Sorry to disagree on such an emotional topic. It is money grubbing legalistic pandering lawyer enabling politics. It will become a huge binanza to leftist the world over and will result in the further internationalization of our legal systems and rights.

I have seen the post here on many peoplesmthoughts about our country supporting the terrorisits who are the enemy of even greater terroists

What about our governments support of the IRA? What about all of the covert ops we have engaged in?

Why did the Dims support it? Why was Obama so vocal in his opposition? Does anyone here really beleive the Dims have fallen out with O?

Sorry, the Pubbies and so called conservatives have taken the bait like a big ‘ole catfsh.

I really appreciate what all of you are saying. But the fact is that the government did NOT do anything against the perpetrators.

See the 28 pages, or however many it was. It doesn’t mean that the US govt was complicit in the 9/11 act itself, but it was complicit in denying justice to the victims. If the executive branch refuses to provide for the common defence and promote the general welfare, what recourse do the injured have, if not the legislative branch?

If the legislative branch opens the door to private sector action, how is that a government initiative?

And as much as I find the work that lawyers do distasteful, as a very general statement, what is wrong with paying lawyers to obtain recompense from guilty parties?

So why didnt Congress declare war? Why didnt Congress impose a trade embargo and sanctions?

If the guilty parties are known then why are not they being sued personally? Or are you saying we were attacked by the Saudi government?

The families of the victims have been recompensed. How much more are they supposed to get? There will be no end to the creativity of the bar in seeking cash. We are not after justice or even vengence we are after cash. And turn about will be a beeeitch.

The big mistake is what comes after suits are filed in US courts by the victims of 9-11. If these suits are allowed to proceed, you can bet that victims of ISIS will be lining up to sue the US for our part in the Benghazi gun-running deal and by the victims of Mexican drug violence for for Fast and Furious.

Of course, there will be considerable efforts at discovery by the lawyers for the plaintiffs and you can also bet that Obama and Hillary will be named PERSONALLY in the complaint.

Yes, I feel the same way. The last four years, the republicans gave Obama everything he wanted. Obama can’t come right out and support this so he has his buddies in Congress bail him out while still looking good to the Saudis.

Add me as another who is concerned about the unintended consequences of this - especially in the world court.

I get the sentiment, it is impossible to miss and it is emotionally satisfying, but this is a bad idea. It encourages lawsuits against us in foreign courts. If this takes root, we will suffer even more casualties among our troops as liability strangles commanders setting the already strict rules of engagement. I have not seen anyone talk about that, but it is a real concern that could not only cost money, but the precious lives of our men and women in the military.

It was, and remains, the responsibility of our elected leaders to deal with issues like this. I have said repeatedly that Saudi Arabia should be paying for the protection we have given them since the first gulf war, but this is a whole new ball of yarn and I don’t think people fully appreciate what may be inside.

It helps Hillary with her Saudi donors. She’s going to protest a bit much and try to get them to pay her to stop it.

Or the Saudi government can throw a couple of people under the bus, settle (a couple of billion is chump change for them) and set a precedent. Then turn about’s fair play and we get creamed.

This was a major slap in the face for Obama. He basically stood alone (with some minor exception) against the House and Senate in siding with Saudi Arabia over America families hurt by 9/11.

It's going to take a while, Barky, but your true legacy will emerge...and it won't be pretty.

A more anti-American President, we should never have.

Any more anti-American of a President, would have them detonating our own nukes over American cities.
