Online 'polls' pegged Donald Trump as the presidential debate winner, but scientific polls did not.
The hashtag #TrumpWon was trending on Twitter Tuesday. Partially boosted by sarcasm, it was fuelled primarily by Donald Trump, who was quick to claim he won Monday's debate by citing a slew of online polls that pegged him as the winner.
But there's a problem. None of the polls Trump has pointed to are actually legitimate polls. Instead, all of the scientific, real polls published so far have shown him to be the loser of the debate by significant margins.
In the world of public opinion research, the "online polls" that litter news websites are a plague. Whereas real surveys try to assemble representative samples of the population, these online polls are more of a gimmick or a game. Anyone can answer them. Often people can answer them multiple times. They can invite their friends, who likely think just like them, to answer the online polls on social media.
And then they can point to these completely unrepresentative and meaningless results as if they signal something important...

But sure, keep telling us about that D+15 CNN flash poll.
Of course they’re not scientific, but Hillary’s supporters could have voted in those polls that Trump’s supporters voted in many times.
So the people aka voters say Trump won the media people say Hillary won. Bwahahahahaha
The Donald won, say Metro readers in online poll

Trump needs to establish a break away lead.
Next week’s polls will tell the story.
I don’t think too many minds were changed, myself.
Well no doubt if they have their pants in a knot about polls imagine how they’ll all be when Trump wins the election!!!!
Hillary was signaling the moron with the questions.
Watch how she touches her face.
Sure, you effin Moron. ANd the pukes you “poll” so scientifically say that Rubio or Carly won every debate hands down. Just like the ignorant pundits said.
“But sure, keep telling us about that D+15 CNN flash poll.”
Actually that poll was 41% Democrat vs 26% Repblican which works out to about 60% more Democrats than Republicans so the 15% figure is misleading.
Online polls are not scientific but what they do show is voter enthusiasm. Trump is kicking tail in this factor and it will be hard to beat come November 8th. We couldn’t win online polls when McCain and Romney ran because the liberals were out in full force. Now the opposite is true.
Canadian Broadcasting care so much? LoL.
The Gravis poll essentially said Trump won, and they’re a legitimate pollster
++++
That’s true. Trump gains voters. Hillary loses voters.
But ask those same people who won the debate and they will very likely give Hillary a slight edge. But these people don’t care if she “won the debate”. They like Trump the unpolished debater and his policies and they’re going to vote for him.
The MSM really cannot and never will understand why this happening.
These people are so fighting the last war. Of course the online polls are not ‘scientific.’ Who cares?
Online polls are the positive campaign ads of the 21st Century.
None of this really matters. I’ve never seen an election for President where a candidate lost because of what he said in a debate. The only reason the Liberals are up in arms and feel the necessity to write the stories and hammer on the poll results which in fact are unscientific is because they know that the general public does not differentiate between scientific and unscientific polls and they know that seeing all these polls showing Trump a clear winner unscientific as they may be are going to bolster him and build his momentum going into the final month.
Excuse syntax,using speech to text.
Did the lead for Trump increase after the debate in the Gravis poll ? At least that was a professional research firm and non-media although they were just registered voters. Any others showing good results, besides Gravis and L.A. Times/USC ?
Yes it did.
Not only that, but anybody can chose to make a small donation to a candidate. So Trump being way ahead on small donations is meaningless.
Also, anybody can argue online for their candidate, so Trump being way ahead there is meaningless.
Also anybody can attend a rally for their candidate, so Trump being way way ahead there is totally absolutely utterly meaningless.
And any legal citizen can vote for their candidate, and when way more vote for Trump, that will also be completely meaningless.
What's meaningful is a sampling that is chosen to be extra heavy on people who might vote for Hilary. And finding these kind of people require professionals well trained in this special kind of work...either that or it requires journalists just asking around the newsroom.
They are losing control and are in a panic.
