Cruz was never #NeverTrump. He was simply an undecided voter, other than vowing never to vote for Hillary. The #NeverTrump movement really seems to be made up of the Romney types, the RINOs who were backing Jeb or someone else, but definitely weren’t backing Cruz.

Cruz tried to create his own NeverTrump movement by getting the Christian Right and the “Consistent Conservatives” to abandon Trump along with him. He failed to connect with the base on that campaign too. We wound up as a guy alone in a field waving his banner. Romney was just more successful at his brand of NeverTrumpism.
