NBC News’ Lester Holt had his “Candy Crowley” moment at the first debate of the 2016 presidential election on Monday night, bowing to pressure from the Hillary Clinton campaign and the liberal media by “fact-checking” Republican nominee Donald Trump on the question of his support for the Iraq War.
Holt lived up to the expectations of his peers. But he lived down to the worst expectations of conservatives, who routinely see Republican candidates treated unfairly by debate moderators.
Again and again, Holt asked Trump tough questions that were straight from the Clinton campaign’s talking points, and which were obvious set-ups for Clinton to attack (and for fact-checkers to pounce on whatever Trump asserted in his own defense).
Here are the five worst examples.
Tax returns. Holt never asked Clinton about her e-mail scandal, about Benghazi, or about the Clinton Foundation and its dubious dealings. But he did ask Trump about his tax returns, arguing — not asking — that there might be questionable information in them that the American public deserved to hear.
Birther conspiracy theory. Holt never asked Clinton about her past record of racist statements, including her “super-predator” remarks as First Lady, or her explicit appeal to “white Americans” in her 2008 primary campaign against Obama. Yet he asked Trump about the Birther conspiracy theory and cast it as racist.

Lester Holt is taking a beating on Twitter right now. He will turn out to be the biggest loser of tonight’s debate.

When Hillary was asked a question by Lester Holt she went very smoothly into a well rehearsed answer. She had the questions. The only time she was not smooth is when Donald directly addressed her.
Holt also questioned Donald on many of his statements. He did not do this to Hillary.
Prior to the debate it was agreed that it was not the responsibility of the moderator to “fact check,” but it was the responsibility of the opposing candidate. They lied and it exactly what I expected.

Should have at least mentioned that Hillary was using Libya as a conduit for arms to ISIS.

Yes, he stepped in, even argued when he should have been silent moderator. Thought commission said no to this type of behavior. Guess he wanted to score points. Shame.

She was also single screen for her opening remarks.
Trump had a split screen with her making faces during his opening remarks.
Why did Hillary have notes? Does that mean she had the questions before the debate and was able to spend the week preparing for this debate?
Why did Prince Reibus the RNC chairman approve of liberal moderators for these debates again? How can he sleep at night?
There`s no good reason for any of these debates to be held in front of a live audience.
The MSM is the Country’s greatest threat.
No doubt a worthwhile experience for Trump and his team.

She was indeed reading off notes. It was confirmed.
They said she was reading from notes. Well, they had to be in order in some order to jive with the questions.
What I’m not understanding is that Obama had on the cover of Birth of My Father (or whatever his shill book was called) that he was born in Kenya. He used it in article after article in Chicago during his initial run for State Senator. Suddenly, when he had national interest, it was racist to bring it up.
(paraphrasing) Well, since the economy is great and everybody is rich and happy, How are you Hil, going to make us all ecstatic and sing Kumbaya all day?
