Ah, that wasn’t made clear amid the hysteria.
OK, so the cops were serving a warrant on someone else (so their tension was really high to start with), then returned to address “firearm in possession of active drug user” - yeah, you approach that with presumption of “armed & dangerous” (considering that he is, well, armed & likely disconnected from reality).
So the point remains:
If you’re in the process of committing a crime, while armed, you PUT DOWN THE GUN and follow orders very carefully. Audio of his wife screaming “don’t do it!” repeatedly shows he didn’t.
All comes back to the same core issue: don’t commit crimes. The demonstrators are, for all practical purposes, demanding the right to commit crimes without overturning applicable laws via due process. Somehow one gets deemed “racist” for observing that bad behavior with predictable consequences is something you shouldn’t do and probably is contributing to various problems in life (like, say, assuming room temperature because you pointed a gun at a cop while using illegal drugs).

THAT is so true. All the dude had to do was put his weapon down and his hands up.
All the dude had to do was not smoke dope.
