Through the first two weeks of the regular season, the league's premiere game, NBC's "Sunday Night Football," is down 12% in viewership compared to last year; ESPN's big game, "Monday Night Football," is also down 12%; and CBS' first "Thursday Night Football" game fell a whopping 26%, according to Nielsen data.

According to this CNN Money article, NFL ratings for the first two weeks of the season are down at least 12% overall. The writer attributes this decline to Peyton Manning's retirement, Tom Brady's four game suspension and viewer interest in the presidential campaign.

No mention at all of Colin Kaepernick's protest, or others who have joined in as being a cause of the viewership decline. I guess time will tell.

When you attack the white Americans who are paying your bills, white Americans stop paying your bills. Is this a trick question? :)

If I see any more of that nonsense today the NFL is off my TV for good.

These idiots will never see the truth. Americans will forgive and tolerate a lot. Spit on our flag and we shun you.

Football fans no longer want to buy a product where the distraction has become the product and the game is secondary.

Here's another link that gives NFL ratings for the first two weeks in more detail. Looks like declines in all but a couple of game nights.

So all they have to do is talk Brett Favre into playing again - easy!

The drive by media will never admit that maybe Americans just don’t want to watch America-haters hating on America.

Yes, it would make perfect sense....we only watched the games to observe Manning and Brady, and Sunday afternoons and Monday evenings are when we traditionally observe political news.

About as dimwitted as they come, when they suggest this. The general public are sending a message to the NFL and the players. If the trend continues through the end of the season, you can all expect all contracts for the next season to be 5 to 10 percent less. If the players can afford pay-cuts....fine.

But here’s the other odd thing. If you detect a trend as an advertiser on ESPN or CBS....why pay the normal hefty amount for your ad’s? I’d ask for a discount. And somewhere down the line....when ‘Big Bob the ESPN talker’ comes in to talk his new contract for next year....he’ll get a pay-cut as well.

Lol, maybe not so easy now since Bret has several commercials where he jokes about coming out of retirement.

I think there's a lot of truth to this article. Backlash against Kaepernick is likely a factor, but not to the tune of 12%.

The NFL's insistence on monkeying around with some of the rules in the last couple of years has been a sure sign that they're concerned about their stale product.

Let the Muslims, the liberal a##es that are bringing them to court for head injuries, and black lives matter support the game, white America boycott UNTIL THE REALIZE THEIR STUPID WAYS

“Monday Night Football,” is also down 12%”..

Wait until after the presidential “debate” is over, that 12% will decrease even more. The NFL, including the self important, over paid players, get what they deserve.

I believe that America loving Americans are tuning out. I had hopes this PC BS wouldn’t infect college football, but it has. So disappointed in Harbaugh.....he could have reined in his players, but chose the other route. Football is on shaky ground, in all venues. Even high school is affected. I LOVED football....so sad for it’s decline due to PC.

Most 'analysts' seem to be in denial that the insulting to most viewers protests have anything to do with the rating decline. I hope the decline continues and worsens until the idiot decision makers stop humoring this nonsense and put a stop to it.

Fans don't buy tickets or turn on the TV to learn the political views of football players or any other athletes.

They made it so that if you even put a finger on the QB voter the throw, you will get flagged. You also cannot cover receivers that well.
