WASHINGTON — Homeland Security Secretary Jeh Johnson warned Sunday that Americans should be “particularly careful” shopping at malls this weekend following a specific terrorist threat.
Terrorist group al-Shabaab released a video calling for attacks on shopping malls in the US, Canada and the United Kingdom, which included mention and images of the Mall of America in Minnesota.
“I would say that if anyone is planning to go to the Mall of America today, they’ve got to be particularly careful,” Johnson said on CNN’s “State of the Union.”
The al Qaeda-linked group was responsible for the deadly Nairobi, Kenya, mall attack in 2013. The Mall of America has responded by beefing up security.
Johnson said federal authorities are taking the threat “seriously” and asked Americans to be more “vigilant.” If they see something suspicious, Johnson said, they should say something.
The threat, much like the social media calls from ISIS, represents “the new phase” in the war on terror in which foreign terrorists call for domestic sympathizers to carry out attacks in their homelands. “We’re beyond the phase now where these groups would send foreign operatives into countries after being trained someplace,” Johnson said.

My husband and I visited Minnesota for the first time in 2012. I was absolutely *stunned* at the number of Muslims we saw all over Minneapolis, and in the Mall of America. Somalis and Middle-Eastern looking Muslims. Some ME-looking women were in nearly full burkas. All pregnant and pushing toddlers in baby carriages of course.
The only "Muslim-free zone" we saw was at the Minnesota Twins' Target Field.
Stupid me, I expected to see a lot of blonde, Swedish-looking people in Minnesota...
Almost forgot, don’t pay attention to “free gun zones” since the Feds don’t respect your right to carry firearms and protect yourself from terrorists and are importing them en masse anyway. If they don’t abide by law’s why should we right?

malls are going away. Granite run, here is the philly burbs, which was developed, i think by rouse, is leveled with only the anchors remaining. all new construction seems to be in strip style.
I remember that and it stayed with me. If you really just want cheaply produced “terror,” over a few weeks just bomb>>> i think the DC random shootings were more threatening. but that takes skill and i don’t think they are that skillful. if the were they might have created something other than a dust bowl.
Both of them are fully protected by armed guards against terrorists.
What’s interesting is that the masshole media doesn’t mention the fact that the Minnesota mall attack was halted when a NRA certified firearms instructor shot the terrorist to death, halting more bloodshed.
Yes, when those Muslim guys can’t see straight for the love they have; they do tend to go completely ape! They fire at Will, Trisha, Debbie, and Dickie.
I’ve not been to a MALL in over 10 years and I don’t intend to go into one in the near future. In fact, by the time I’ve courage enough to attempt walking thru the doors, malls will have been boarded up and abandoned for years. Another discarded piece of American culture brought about by BO’B and crew.
All they can do is ask you to leave IF they catch you.
All these warnings are unnecessary if we just don’t let muslims into the country. Why is that so difficult to understand? What difference is there between the person who allows the murderer into the house and the murderer himself?
It is not the radicalized muslim who wants to kill us but every f’n one of them, sunni, Shiite or otherwise. We are being killed by the muslim and the Feds who let them in.

Minnesota is a liberal state, filled with Dims. They wanted this; made them feel “inclusive” and full of kumbaya.
The last time I was in a mall was two years ago when I took a pair of shoes in to get re-soled. Went in, dropped them off; came back a week later and picked them up. Total time in the mall, combined, was probably around five minutes.
It isn’t goat humping that is giving us security problems.

It’s the middle of the night and I just left my little dog outside to go potty. I just heard on the radio at 2 pm that the shooter at the mall I Washington was from Turkey.
Pardon me for being disgusted. Our PC dominated culture brought on by politicians and university intellectuals was saying all day Saturday that the perp was likely ‘Hispanic’.
If I were Hispanic I would be offended. Why is it OK point a finger at Hispanics, but intentionally avoid mentioning the chance that the perp could be a middle easterner or [horror!] a Muslim?
Just another chance for Donald Trump to emphasize the goofy attitudes of liberals who are currently in charge.
Maybe we need a US Dept of Security against domestic acts of Jihad.
