Blowing Your Mind – as Promised (Dilbert Strikes Again!)
Scott Adams' Blog ^ | 9/23/16 | Scott Adams

Posted on 09/23/2016 8:16:02 AM PDT by Be Careful

About a year ago I told you that Donald Trump would change far more than politics. I predicted that he would change your understanding of the human condition and your role in reality.

Back then, I couldn’t explain what I meant. You didn’t have the mental framework to hold this new idea – unless you were a trained hypnotist or a cognitive scientist. The ideas were too radical.

Until now.

I saw this situation developing last year. The Master Persuader opened a crack in the universe so we mortals could – for the first time – understand the nature of reality. At the end of this short blog post I will link to an article that will blow your mind.

But first I will describe the mental framework you need to accept this new vision of reality. The framework goes like this:

“but I still have a day ahead of me that involves diapers, cooking, and laundry.”

Uh, huh. There you go again. Didn’t the good Professor Donald “Douchebag” Hoffman convince you that you’re ensconced in a pod and your body heat is powering The Matrix?

He gets to feel all philosophical, is my theory.

"Given an arbitrary world and arbitrary fitness functions, an organism that sees reality as it is will never be more fit than an organism of equal complexity that sees none of reality but that is just tuned to fitness."

The birth rate for some groups, muzlims, welfare recipients,ilegales(?)...is greater than the norm.

If this trend holds, bow to your new masters.

3. So-called “news” outlets are literally inventing news and peddling it as truth.

4. We learned that voters don’t actually pick the Democratic candidate. The party picks the candidate. Democracy in the United States is largely an illusion.

...

I don’t think the two statements above are stupid.

This also gives pretty short shrift to classic theology.

I think the point of his article was precisely the opposite; perception of a “true” reality has zero bearing on the chance of procreation.

Reality: That which continues to grind your face into the concrete, even after you stop believing in it.

Scott Adams shows some terrific insight into human character, yet in doing so reveals his own blind reversal of rationality. It could be the fodder for a very long column, but just a couple of quick points. 1) Adams is primarily a secularist in his views, which restricts the comprehensiveness of his vision, and 2) secularists are on unfamiliar territory when the discussion turns to present growth and rehabilitation, since they tend to burn brightest in the world of random assignment with regard to human development (evolution, if you like).

Agree.

If you dive deep into the reading summaries, you get to this:

http://www.npr.org/sections/13.7/2016/09/06/492779594/what-if-evolution-bred-reality-out-of-us

“evolution couldn’t care less if you perceive objective reality. It only wants you to have sex successfully. As a consequence, your apprehension of the world is tuned to whatever allows that to happen. Thus, your perceptions at the root level have nothing to do with some fundamental physics upon which the fundamental nature of objective independent reality is constructed.”

Yesterdays blog post is much better.

I agree, yesterdays post was better. I am not quite sure what point the current post was intended to make.

Those two statements are not stupid.

My comment was referring to the “this” that I clicked on:

“Now you are ready.

Read this to forever alter your understanding of reality.

Welcome to the third dimension.”

Yes, it is.  I, however, was commenting on Phlogistan,
not phlogiston.  Phlogistan.

And notice, that the very way we speak of reality confesses that we believe it has, or is the tool of an entity possessing, a very personal nature.

In the end it makes no less sense to talk about God and the devil than about hypostatic nouns, and sometimes seems to make a lot more sense.

The perspective Adam’s is hawking could account for Christianity as a natural upshot.

Christianity allows for the most people to successfully reproduce.

Chastity limits sexually transmitted disease.

Goodness towards neighbors as a societal norm reduces the chance that they’ll crack your head and steal your stuff.

Etc.

I don’t discount that G-d created Evolution and Natural Selection as a mechanism of showing man the right way spiritually. And that showing can happen unbeknownst, philosophically, and genetically.

Quite interesting. The whole folds in on itself at that point. Who are we to know the ways of G-d?

It makes sense that creatures that can't tell a poisonous snake from a stick shouldn't last long and, therefore, shouldn't pass their genes on to the next generation.

It's not that the human organism is no longer attuned to reality in order to propagate.

It's that the reality of the environment they are responding to is different than in the past, and the current reality is dominated by progressive government.

To thrive in the society created by today's Progressives, you need to know your way around an EBT card, not a snake.

Trump is the last exit before the full-blown totalitarian Progressive control of human society.

And yet — one needs a place for the “thing” called love.

Christian faith postulates that everybody will exist forever. The only question is where, and what that is going to be like.

Which itself could be a natural preservation and procreation mechanism.

What is oxytocin?

:-)

Just so we’re clear, I’m not looking for an argument with you. I have room for all sorts of perspectives, just so long as they’re not actively looking to kill me.

Agreed. We have been empty nesters for over a decade. For years my wife will read out loud several hours a day while I listen so we can share it. For the last year or so we have been catching up on Scifi, a genre we had neglected. Also a month or so I discovered Ancient Aliens. Most of it is goofy but as I “saw the light” and got Baptised in 2000 my wife is still an atheist ( she says). So I am having a lot of fun with all this because I have actually read the Bible a lot. For a Christian the thing you are accepting is that there actually ARE supernatural forces (meaning things our reason has yet to comprehend) at work. While I spent YEARS trying to reason with her, literally to the point she grabbed my arm one day and asked “Where is my husband and what have you done with him?” (LOL) to no avail over the last year reading Assimov, Bradley, and Clarke she is starting to realize there IS something else going on here.

So it is fun to watch her dawning realization of what every REAL scientist knows, what we call science is just what we know SO FAR. Like I say, most of Ancient Aliens is goofy but they root up a real gem from time to time. A few minutes of one episode really got my attention because it was exactly what I had been pondering.

WHAT IF? What if there was a characteristic of human neurophysiology that at a “nano level” we were actually manipulating reality in these other dimensions. In the show they referenced micro tubules as a possible mechanism. What if having once “checked in” in the Fourth Dimension, or whatever, like a universal library, so to speak, you forever had a card to go back there. Even after the organism you built in these threevdimensionscwas gone? Is that what he meant when he said, “In my father’s house there are many mansions...”

Like I say, I am enjoying it because I see that it is “raising awareness” in someone for whom traditional message just did not work.

Some chemical found in brain tissue and believed to have a role in how it works, though no scientist has truly explained it.

Christ sure would be about the last on any list of entities looking to kill you.
