“And have no legitimate role in law enforcement other than clerical”

C’mon man, they can be Green Berets and Navy Seals, surely they can be cops too, no?

>>> I’m in Tulsa and have been following this one. He was a bad dude on PCP, kept reaching into his pocket despite orders not to, and got killed. she seems to have panicked and shot when the taser went off. So sad.

I watched the video several times... he was clearly disobeying commands all the way back to his vehicle. He had his hands up, but was moving back to his vehicle when they were already drawn on him and most likely telling him to get down. Once at his vehicle, he was clearly reaching inside of it to retrieve something.

They should have tazed him before he got to the vehicle... he would probably be alive now if they had... but it was a LOT more than his hands in pockets that did it.

This officer is going to get cleared I bet... unfortunately thats where the real problems will begin.

Please read the post again. It was in reference to the suspect, not the policewoman.

That’s the highest charge without “intent”; somehow, blacks won’t be ok with that as they’ll want her lynched. 0bama will cheer “the anger is justified”.

Find a better justice system anywhere and move there.

A guess.
The taser got him first, he moved, she reacted???

This will lead to more police resigning the force, or at the very least staying away from certain areas. Who wants to be a policeman when it’s assumed you’re the bad guy?

May have watched too many hours of Law & Order on TV, but I doubt if any background on the dead guy would be allowed as it could be determined to be prejudicial.

Most blacks in these communities are taught an utter hatred for authority and the 'white establishment'..

As a result they refuse to obey any commands given by police officers. This is what initiates nearly all police shootings of blacks.

Until blacks are educated from a young age to obey commands given by cops, this sh*t will not stop.

Blacks need to be taught that it is okay to obey the cops and to obey a cop doesn't mean you are suddenly a 'slave to the white man'!

I ran into this. I think it is true but do not know for fact. Give it a 90 percent confidence level.

“Officer Betty Shelby did NOT have the information that Crutcher was an ex-felon at the time she pulled the trigger! ..... Already there have been lies about an open driver’s window; in the helicopter video, the window is clearly closed and holds blood splatter!” [this is important because the claim is that he is reaching into the vehicle through the window to perhaps grab a gun].
Statements from officials today: “Officer Shelby is adamant that we walked up to the vehicle and cleared it, noting that the windows were down before Mr. Crutcher walked up.” See http://bearingarms.com/bob-o/2016/09/22/betty-shelby-was-justified-in-shooting-terence-crutcher/
‘Crutcher’s arms came down, and he turned to face the car, Wood said, and he reached into the driver’s side window with his left hand. That’s when Shelby fired one shot and a fellow officer, Tyler Turnbough, deployed a Taser, Wood said.” See http://bearingarms.com/bob-o/2016/09/22/betty-shelby-was-justified-in-shooting-terence-crutcher/

Funny thing, if he had a gun in his hand then why would he reach into a closed or open window to grab a gun. Moreover, if the gun was in the car when he reached then what is up with the picture of the gun some feet away from the suspect. This is bad. Finally, it sure looks like the windows were up. See the blood markings on same.

The officer may have panicked and shot after hearing the taser go. I hope that is not the case, but, I donno, seems probable. More worrisome is whether or not a gun was planted. Again I donno.

All said this had nothing to do with race and everything to do about a charged situation wherein anything that can go wrong will.

I hope she survives this. Stressful situation that the suspect was responsible for creating.
I can’t imagine being johnny on the spot and having to make that decision. However, the sound of a taser, I would most definitely, if already wound up, shoot. BTW that is her defense to the charge in a nutshell.

That could be true...but it's likely to make the papers. In fact it already has at least a bit. What is seen cannot be "un-seen".And yes I'd know that if it's not allowed into evidence I can't tell anyone, including fellow jurors, that I'm voting not guilty partially because of his past.

Call it jury nullification if you wish but in the end *I* will determine what's pertinent and what's not...not some terrorist in a black robe.

That was fast.

Political expediency?

But of course. They have not concluded their investigation. Under the bus she goes. The mob must be appeased. People have to get re-elected, don't you know.

It is Darren Wilson all over again.

You could hang the jury easily, but convincing it without revealing prejudice would be harder.

“the sound of a taser”
Sounds reasonable. An involuntary reflex, like a tap on the knee by a doctor.
That’s how Posner argued there were no more than three shots fired in Dealey Plaza on 11.22.63.
Zapruder’s film showed three flinches by the operator (Zapruder) as he filmed Kennedy’s limo passing by the Texas skool suppository toward the overpass.
Her lawyer may want to show that officers were not trained in holding a gun on a suspect while another tazed the bro’. Even if they were, it’s a defense anyway. A crime require criminal intent, here (I believe) gross negligence or a reckless disregard for human life or something.
After viewing the chopper video, and from what I’m reading here, the citizen was disregarding instructions, doing his own thing. So maybe he’s right: dead right.
A grand jury will indict a ham sandwich, as the saying goes, but she won’t be convicted. She should tender her resignation, case closed.

Call me old fashioned but I think if you are convicted of a felony you should not be allowed to carry a badge and a gun and be a cop ever again.

Nothing to do with "old-fashioned" - this has been law for a long time where prior conviction means a loss of many civil rights, not just gun ownership. Doesn't have anything to do with cop/not a cop.

Seems reasonable. Let a jury decide. Cops are supported, they have to choose wisely when life hangs in the balance. Don’t become a cop if you can’t handle the heat.
