Cruz supporters alarmed by possible Trump endorsement
Washington Examiner ^ | September 22, 2016 | By DAVID M. DRUCKER

Ted Cruz supporters were alarmed Wednesday at suggestions that he was on the verge of endorsing Donald Trump.

They worry that the Texas senator could squander his brand as a fighter — and goodwill earned among many through his stubborn refusal to back his party's nominee — if he caves with nothing to show for it.

Cruz has held out on the grounds that Trump is insufficiently conservative, and because Trump attacked his wife and father down the stretch of their heated battle for the Republican nomination.

The senator even took the extraordinary step of declining to endorse Trump during a televised, prime time speech delivered from the stage of the New York businessman's own nominating convention.

“Cruz had better cowboy up and honor his pledge to support the nominee...”

Cruz should have honored that pledge back in May, when he left the race. Even doing so as late as the convention in August, would have satisfied many.

To do so now, when we’re less than fifty days out from election day, would be a pitiful, insincere gesture, on his part.

Too late to cowboy up now. The damage is done.

"Cruz supporters are alarmed at the possibility of Cruz endorsing Trump, but are not alarmed at the possibility of Hillary becoming President?

Incredible isn't it!

Cruz ought to put the old geezer GHWB in his place by merely stating:

"Read my lips, of course, I'm voting for Donald Trump and Mike Pence and I urge all my supporters to do the same!"

Doesn't matter what the evil one does now...to late

He lied, he tried to be ‘Trump’ many times, he was unfaithful to his wife and kids, he sealed his records...

Reminds me of Barky, Jr. Senator, not born on American Soil, lies, is not for America...(he helped write the TTP bill with Paul Ryan) and he is for H1B visas that put our people out of work, he supported CFR, which as I said he's not for America...

Nope, do what you want, but don't soil Trump's campaign with your half butted endorsement...we don't want it...

Ted’s endorsement doesn’t mean squat at this point. He’s done as a politician.

“Bill Kristol was wavering in his hatred of Trump last night on Brit Hume, he must have a sense that his career is/has tanked.”

Kristol and the other DC GOPe pundits will be part of the great unemployed when President Trump is sworn in.

If Hillary plants her face in the sidewalk and doesn’t get up for the count The Never Trumpers will suffer the greatest lose of all. The longer they wait the more the odds go up of her taking a dive. Get on board now because anything can happen with her health.

Cruz has boxed himself into a corner because he is a the GOPe’s Tea Party mole.

Rove is probably his handler. This is why all of his Senate grandstanding on conservative issues were failures... because it’s just political posturing to keep the Uniparty agenda hidden.

Now, Trump is going to make hay of the internet giveaway and Cruz and his GOPe puppet masters don’t know exactly how to handle it.

If Cruz took money from the Clintons before the convention, he’s not going to do anything that will help Trump, at all. Read this:

http://dcwhispers.com/ted-cruz-photographed-barack-obama-valerie-jarrett-hillary-clinton-days-gop-convention/

Lord Jesus, confuse the plans of the Uniparty Elites in this nation... they are but a trifle to you, O God. Reveal their subterfuge and unveil their deception so people of this nation can see the truth and act on the truth of what is really going on behind closed doors of leadership. Protect Your people, Lord God; though we do not deserve You. Amen.

This longstanding (from day 1) prior/current/future Ted Cruz supporter hopes and expects Cruz to fall in line, and endorse wholeheartedly Trump now.

We need to keep watch over Trump to be Constitutionally-minded, and that won’t happen effectively without a Cruz endorsement.

Cruz gave an oath to support the nominee, and his failure to do so showed his lack of principles. His wining about alleged attacks on his wife and father shows it’s all about him, not what’s best for the country.

I think it does because it removes one more arrow from The Left’s quiver to shoot at Trump!

As for Cruz, there’s no question it COULD help him. In Texas a deal is STILL a deal to MOST and he SIGNED a contract and then shot the finger at it when he lost! A lot of people, me being one, could not even CONSIDER supporting him much less voting for him based on this one fact standing all by itself. And, I was one of his biggest supporters at first plus I donated to him and got others to donate several thousand to him.

Obviously, my main man now is The Don !

Ditto.

It is time to rally around the nominee - the cost of a Clinton Presidency is too high for any patriotic American to accept.

Maybe the RNC Chairman putting his foot down is working to get everyone on board.

I really want to see Kasich get with the program as well - the popular governor of the critical swing state of Ohio. He is probably more important than Cruz, Romney or even the Bushes; when it comes to actual votes where they count (although Jeb! could help in Florida).

I see a possible strategic reason for Cruz holding back. In military terms, he is acting like “reserves”, not being deployed until at a critical moment when he throws in to create overwhelming momentum.

Importantly, such strategic thinking would mean that he has long been on friendlier terms with Trump than either have let on, which seemed to be the case during much of the primary campaign. This is a good possibility when you are dealing with two smart guys who see the big picture.

It would also mean that Cruz would have a prominent place in the Trump administration. Not as a front man, but someone in a position of great power.

Again, thinking strategically, one of Trump’s first really big fights is going to be his nominee to the SCOTUS to replace justice Scalia. It is guaranteed to be a knock down drag out. For him to nominate Cruz would unify the Democrat opposition like nothing else.

So it would be best to nominate a conservative less controversial. Granted, he will still be savaged, but when confirmed will return the conservatives to a tentative 5-4 majority, with justice Kennedy being the weakest link. However, once that is done, much of the fight will be knocked out of the Democrats.

My guess is that Ruth Bader Ginsburg will retire soon after. And *then* would be optimum to nominate Cruz to the SCOTUS. Sure it will still be a fight, but with Cruz in, there will be no argument about the court being strongly conservative. It would be a strategic victory, and make the rest of the Trump administration much easier.

This is a no brainer. All Cruz has to do is say that at the convention he asked everyone to vote their conscience. His conscience leads him to honor his pledge and endorse DT as his conscience will not allow Hillary to benefit from his silence.

He still has supporters. Amongst Mormons in particular.

This is going to be a very close election, the wishful thinking you see here and other places notwithstanding. It’ll boil down to turnout, particularly on our side, and as a practical matter there is no way that a ground game helps with the folks that are in your own party. It only helps with the squishes that are in the middle.

So, much as I hate it (and I do), I think getting TT to endorse is a good thing and would help the bottom line. It isn’t a do or die issue, but it would help. And viewed from a cost/benefit perspective, it has a pretty good Potential payback.
