I don’t understand why heroin got to be so popular in this day and age especially when AIDS and other diseases are spread by needles.
The very idea of shooting up makes me sick.
I have read that some people have turned to heroin because of the crackdown on prescription opiates. I could understand that if a person had chronic pain issues, but probably most people who switch to heroin are just addicts.
Very sad and hard to fathom.
Massachusetts. Note only one person initially present speaks English.
Black Tar is heroin as well, just usually cheaper than the fully refined white. AKA, mud, brown sugar, black tar, black pearl and as you mentioned tar. Big issue in Denver with the street people.
There’s a one word answer:
Oxycontin
Oxy, like most of the top end prescription painkillers, is an opioid, ie it’s heroin, modified but at its heart heroin. Oxy was touted as non-addictive. A total lie, but somehow doctors bought it, and prescribed it for everything. Making oxy addicts all over the place (including one Rush Limbaugh). Then the FDA realized they screwed up and started cracking down on prescriptions, not much really but enough to force the addicts to switch to the real thing.
And really oxy is just the flagship. We still GROSSLY over prescribe opioid painkiller. They’ve cut down on oxy because it became a dirty word, but you can get vicodin scrips for just about anything, they gave me a scrip for it after oral surgery, I wound up using a total of 3 advil to control the pain, but I could have had 2 dozen vicodin for it. Then of course there’s this whole mentality of “just take a pill”, we fix all problems with a pill, any old pill.
We manufacture junkies, then we’re shocked to find out they’re junkies.
You know, the shift towards blaming society (and doctors), and casting drug addicts as victims, has become very pronounced in the last 5 years.
The news here in NH has started to run “hero saves overdose victim with Narcan” stories, when what the “hero” has done is insure more crimes, more abuse of children and others, and millions and millions of taxpayer dollars to be squandered - why? Based on what theory of justice?
It cracks me up what people talk about an “accidental drug overdose”, when there’s nothing accidental about it at all.
“They were new to it.. :(”
Not too many people survive to be “old to it”.
“he says heroin has taken over the towns along with something called tar”
“Tar” is just another word for heroin, from “black tar heroin”.
She needed two Narcan doses so she could be revived ...but she claims she didn’t overdose and had just fallen asleep.
“Speaking to a friend who is a probation officer in southern Colorado”
Much of the heroin is coming out of the Army at Ft Carson. The wife has seen a massive increase in overdoses and abuses.
We have a very small cache of hydrocodone.
Before the crackdown, I used to have a refillable RX because I get very bad back pain. I don’t have to take it but a few times a month and I always split the pills in half to make them last. I only take opiates when muscle relaxers and NSAIDS don’t work.
I believe people who get addicted to RX drugs are wired that way. I don’t believe doctors are to blame.
I don’t want to get high. I just want to stop hurting so I can fix dinner or move around without wanting to cry.
I really wish our government would stop punishing everyone for the lousy choices of a few.
Isn’t God just thinning out the herd?
Just like car "accidents" where people are running on bald tires, speeding in the rain, drunk or distracted, incompetent, etc. Now if someone hits you or a deer jumps out in front of you, then maybe so.
IMO if you do drugs your children are removed...permanently...period....and not to the same family members who know of the problems and are accessories by not preventing these incidents. They too loose their rights to the children.
Nobody starts off shooting heroin. They either start with the prescription pills or start snorting the powder.
By the time they move on to needles they are hopeless addicts already.
“I believe people who get addicted to RX drugs are wired that way.”
Well, the problem is everyone is wired to become addicted to opiates. People with “addictive personalities” will succumb faster, but with sufficient use, everyone gets addicted to them. That’s why you see people who were never part of the “drug culture”, who were responsible people, suddenly become opiate junkies in the middle of otherwise normal lives.
In AA meetings which I attend, people say that many start with prescription pain meds (”opioids”).
When prescriptions runs out, they turn to heroin which is cheaper and easier to get.
The street heroin, is very inconsistent, as to potency.
People have OD’d on heroin forever. Janice Joplin and Jimi Hendrix, to name just two of them. They were not suicidal, just stupid and careless.
Once I went to Stanford Emergency, only 3-4 were for real medical emergency and rest were drug overdose. OD patients were young kids of Multi millionaires, parents were in top brand clothes.
Bottom line is choice.
People choose to overuse opiates so they end up addicted.
Why aren’t those people at an NA meeting?
