I don’t understand why heroin got to be so popular in this day and age especially when AIDS and other diseases are spread by needles.
The very idea of shooting up makes me sick.
I have read that some people have turned to heroin because of the crackdown on prescription opiates. I could understand that if a person had chronic pain issues, but probably most people who switch to heroin are just addicts.
Very sad and hard to fathom.
There’s a one word answer:
Oxycontin
Oxy, like most of the top end prescription painkillers, is an opioid, ie it’s heroin, modified but at its heart heroin. Oxy was touted as non-addictive. A total lie, but somehow doctors bought it, and prescribed it for everything. Making oxy addicts all over the place (including one Rush Limbaugh). Then the FDA realized they screwed up and started cracking down on prescriptions, not much really but enough to force the addicts to switch to the real thing.
And really oxy is just the flagship. We still GROSSLY over prescribe opioid painkiller. They’ve cut down on oxy because it became a dirty word, but you can get vicodin scrips for just about anything, they gave me a scrip for it after oral surgery, I wound up using a total of 3 advil to control the pain, but I could have had 2 dozen vicodin for it. Then of course there’s this whole mentality of “just take a pill”, we fix all problems with a pill, any old pill.
We manufacture junkies, then we’re shocked to find out they’re junkies.
Nobody starts off shooting heroin. They either start with the prescription pills or start snorting the powder.
By the time they move on to needles they are hopeless addicts already.
