Trump opposes plan for U.S. to cede internet oversight

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump opposes a long-planned transition of oversight of the internet's technical management from the U.S. government to a global community of stakeholders, his campaign said in a statement on Wednesday.

Congress should block the handover, scheduled to occur on Oct. 1, "or internet freedom will be lost for good, since there will be no way to make it great again once it is lost," Stephen Miller, national policy director for the Trump campaign, said in a statement.

Senator Ted Cruz of Texas, a former presidential primary foe of Trump's who has refused to endorse the real estate developer, has led a movement in congress to block the transition, arguing it could cede control of the internet itself to authoritarian regimes like Russia and China and threaten online freedom.

Technical experts have said those claims are baseless, and that a delay will backfire by undermining U.S. credibility in future international negotiations over internet standards and security.

“...Americans build it, Democrats give it away.”

Yes, and in this case we have, by far, the WORST DEMOCRAT in history trying to GIVE more United States power away to our enemies...yes, the UN. Our enemies. His self-determined job for two terms, has been to hurt this country, its people and embolden and empower our enemies.

Why is he not in prison?? Oh, I forgot. The Washington Repubs are afraid to be called “racist”.

It’s too late Obama already handed the keys to the UN

Generations of Americans to come will marvel at us, that we let this very small man commit so much destruction and that he was practically untouchable because of his skin color. I don't know if we'll ever recover fully.

Hail yeah.

Vote trump to stop this.

Hope it’s not too late

I hope so too...I don’t think it is too late...

Please consider putting in a call or email to your Reps...The Internet Protection Act 5418 needs to be voted on to stop funding of the transfer—they did it for past 2 years and should do it again so we can have a Trump administration evaluate the “deal!”

The Sponsor of HR5418, Congressman Sean Duffy’s R-WI office asked that people call their Reps as this can be voted on before September 30. Complementary Senate Bill is SB3034 for anyone wanting to contact their senators too.

You mean that if we don't do this deal now, "they" will not do deals with us like this ever again?

Sounds like a deal!

With Mr. Trump having met with the President of Egypt and also other leaders from other countries, the leaders sensing that he will be the next President it is good that he spoke out on this issue.

Not really. Looks like there will be dealing also and once Trump wins, a new found sense of respect.

You may want to read up on this...There have been many threads with lots of links posted on this...

For the past 2 years Congress has blocked this transfer of certain areas of internet regulation by defunding...IF Congress does not specifically prohibit this transfer thru defunding and Senate thru legislation, it will be out of our hands until such time as we might be able to “deal” as you say.

Once the camel gets its head in the tent, it is difficult to remove it...The Globalists are salivating at the opportunity to obtain control of the Internet, which we developed and our tax dollars funded!

The globalists are incrementalists and once control transfer begins, over time it very likely will expand.

FYI - This morning I called four of our Congressman’s offices in Texas and his office in DC and sent him an email listing of all the Reps that had signed off, asking him why his name did not appear with other Congressmen. Also sent a copy of the same list to entire membership of Republican group that always contributes a sizeable amount to our Reps reelection urging they contact our Congressman to get his support or no more contributions for his reelection.

In addition, very early this morning also sent individual fax to all Texas Reps that signed on to HR5418 thanking them for their support.

Trump’s position is what I would expect. Rather left hand thanks from Cruz but better that than nothing.

Wow! Made my day! Seriously, if many of us will put forth effort, maybe they will listen, and we are making enough noise that the Trump campaign now has it on their radar.

I like your approach...Send the list and ask why my Rep or Senator is not on it! Will use it with a second round—especially now that I have Senate bill number SB3034...I am in Illinois...Not terribly optimistic about Durbin, but Kirk’s office has been getting calls, so there is hope...

My Rep says he is a conservative (eh he is a moderate), will see what happens with him...

Thanks again for your efforts!!

You’re welcome. Seems like I am on my soap box more than not for the last several years. One of the bad things about contacting their DC office is you never get to talk to your rep, just a staffer who keeps a tally sheet with two columns on their paper. One is labeled “For” and one is labeled “Against”. Responses to comments you send them via the web are responded to with a canned response.

That is one of the reasons I contact their local offices in the state where I know many of the staffers. Our DC rep knows he is going to get a lot of grief when he attends a local meeting- although he rarely shows up any more.

No one in our family has voted for our Rep for the last three elections. He has run unopposed and keep hoping that the drop in the number of people voting for him versus the total number voting would cause him some concern or not.... We just do what we can do and pray a lot!
