Are National Anthem Protests Costing NFL Viewership?
CBS Detroit ^ | 20 Sept 2016 | Christy Strawser

Posted on 09/21/2016 10:29:06 AM PDT by hawaiianninja

(WWJ) James Olson, a Sports Illustrated subscriber since fourth grade, watches action-packed NFL games on TV to escape from the endless round of political bickering playing out on other channels.

But with more national anthem protests cropping up, he feels like politics has taken over his favorite sport, too. So he’s tuning out.

“I want to say to these guys ‘If you weren’t playing in the NFL, you would be working at McDonalds. I think people have had it,” said, Olson, a Birmingham, Mich., resident.

I'm a lifelong Redskins fan and I skipped the Dallas-Washington game.

The best commercial ever was the American Express featuring Tom Landry 'surrounded by Redskins'

That commercial could not be made today.

My husband is done with NFL!

This is big for him. He was never an entire-all-day-Sunday watcher except maybe during his teen and college years, however, the select teams he wanted to watch were very important to him and he watched religiously. (I never really watched it myself).

He is disgusted with the NFL shenanigans.

I have watched Raiders games since the old AFL days.
Not this year, and maybe never again.

Don’t know if things will change or not, but my boycott makes me feel like I’m not watching people benefit financially by insulting my values. Only a mascocist would do that.

If the NFL continues to allow their players to insult and disrespect the American flag and national anthem, and the rest of law abiding American citizens, then it’s high time they reap their rewards.

Probably true, however see my post #43 - there are some of us out there with principles!

Shhh ... Tom Brady thinks it's because of him.

Maybe it's because millennials are less likely to have grown up playing or watching the game.

I know they lost me. I’ve watched all the Dolphin’s games for many years. I refuse to watch any this year and maybe never again. I’m disappointed in the players and the management for letting a bunch of spoiled rich kids pretend they’re relevant by spitting on the people who pay their salaries. There’s plenty of other things to do on Sunday that don’t involve disrespecting the flag.

I have a great new name for the Washington Redskins. The San Antonio Bandits.
