"He didn't have a gun, he was reading a book" is a rather sorry attempt to spin the story by Lamont's relatives. If you're going to tell a lie about the alleged virtues of the latest street thug shot by police, at least make it halfway plausible. Lamont Scott doesn't really seem like the bookworm type to me.

A public records search shows that Scott was convicted in April 2004 of a misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon charge in Mecklenburg County. Other charges stemming from that date were dismissed: felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and misdemeanors assault on a child under 12, assault on a female and communicating threats.
His mother, Vernita Walker of Charleston, SC, said Wednesday her son had seven children.
“He was a family man,” she said. “And he was a likeable person. And he loved his wife and his children.” She said she had just talked with her son on the phone that day.
In April 2015 in Gaston County Court, Scott was found guilty of driving while intoxicated.

These people are insane. They rush to judgement and ignore the facts in everyone of these scenarios.
Tho I am sure the entire Charlotte police department (including minorities) will have to undergo some sort of DOJ sponsored diversity training, I wonder just when are these people going to get the message that you don’t wave a gun at a police officer and get a good result?
Love the way CNN is calling them “Protesters” they were “Rioters” burning cars, holding up traffic, stealing, etc.
