Officers did not find a book where Keith Lamont Scott was shot Tuesday, Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Chief Kerr Putney said Wednesday.
Scott's family had said he was reading a book in his car when he was shot. Putney also said that while witnesses and evidence indicate Scott had a handgun when he was shot, Putney could not say for certain Wednesday whether Scott was pointing the gun at officers.

"He didn't have a gun, he was reading a book" is a rather sorry attempt to spin the story by Lamont's relatives. If you're going to tell a lie about the alleged virtues of the latest street thug shot by police, at least make it halfway plausible. Lamont Scott doesn't really seem like the bookworm type to me.

They found the book he was reading:

If I was going to ambush a cop, sitting “reading” a book would be a good setup.
To: ek_hornbeck
The rioters care neither that the thug was armed nor that the cop is black. They’re just looking for any excuse to play victim, blame whitey, and exercise their anger.

Maybe we can meet them half way and say it was a book about Guns?
Or Maybe a Book shaped like a Gun?

...
Being the relative of a shot dead thug can bring a lot of wealth and fame these days.
Michael Brown’s mom was an honorary guest at Hillary’s convention.

You mean he wasn't the book's author? I'm shocked!
Just as Trayvon Martin was "a good boy," and Michael Brown was "a gentle giant," apparently Lamont Scott was "an avid reader and a scholar."
To: KC_Lion
They could have made the story halfway believable by saying that Lamont was browsing through his porn stash and holding a malt liquor bottle.

From the Miami Herald:
A public records search shows that Scott was convicted in April 2004 of a misdemeanor assault with a deadly weapon charge in Mecklenburg County. Other charges stemming from that date were dismissed: felony assault with a deadly weapon with intent to kill, and misdemeanors assault on a child under 12, assault on a female and communicating threats.
His mother, Vernita Walker of Charleston, SC, said Wednesday her son had seven children.
He was a family man, she said. And he was a likeable person. And he loved his wife and his children. She said she had just talked with her son on the phone that day.
In April 2015 in Gaston County Court, Scott was found guilty of driving while intoxicated.

If I was going to ambush a cop, sitting reading a book would be a good setup. Then my husband is setting up ambushes everywhere he goes.
Drinking a cup of "coffee" would be a good set-up.
"Brushing" my hair would be a good set-up.
Carrying a bag of "dog poop" would be a good set-up.
The possibilities are endless.
