Colleges turn to coloring books to de-stress students

In the age of safe spaces and trigger warnings comes another new trend to the college repertoire: coloring books. This fall, campuses nationwide are offering coloring books to students to help them de-stress.

At American University on Monday, its counseling center provided coloring sheets in honor of Healthy Campus Week, noting on its Facebook page that adult coloring books “can help with a number of emotional and mental health issues.” Conditions cited include obsessive-compulsive, eating, anxiety and depressive disorders, as well as anger management and substance abuse issues.

“The time and focus that adult coloring takes helps the individual remove the focus from the negative issues and habits, and focus them in a safe and productive way,” the AU center stated.

How long before the students regress further down the adolescent scale and into finger painting, just like they did in kindergarten?

History of Big Chief Tablet:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Big_Chief_tablet

pencil history. I think I can remember a few pencils made out of red cedar and the smell:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pencil#Grading_and_classification

By the end of the 19th century over 240,000 pencils were used each day in the US. The favoured timber for pencils was Red Cedar as it was aromatic and did not splinter when sharpened. In the early 20th century supplies of Red Cedar were dwindling so that pencil manufacturers were forced to recycle the wood from cedar fences and barns to maintain supply.

One effect of this was that “during World War II rotary pencil sharpeners were outlawed in Britain because they wasted so much scarce lead and wood, and pencils had to be sharpened in the more conservative manner – with knives.”[33]

It was soon discovered that Incense cedar, when dyed and perfumed to resemble Red Cedar, was a suitable alternative and most pencils today are made from this timber which is grown in managed forests. Over 14 billion pencils are manufactured worldwide annually.[34] Less popular alternatives to cedar include basswood and alder.[33]

I guess it won’t be long before they’ll be able to apply for disability for PTSD after they are given a “diploma” and sent home to their parents.

Are they required to remove the “flesh” crayon from the box of 64? If not, they’re racists, I think.

Lol, in the 1990s, I played pick up hockey and went to the nearby video arcade.

In the 1930s, Roosevelt promised a Welfare State that would take care of people from cradle to grave. Now, citizens never have to leave the cradle. The state promises to take care of you if you let the state control your life and “adults” willingly take that bargain and, almost literally, revert to being little kids who spend their days playing and not having to deal with harsh ideas or having to work.

In the 1970’s we hiked in nature, drank beer, participated in sports, smoked, read, actually did our studies and socialized.

Seems like the dumbing down of America is reaching new and lower depths. At this rate, students will be issued campus diapers with the University logo on it in a few years.

Is the nation returning to the fetal position in the womb?

The armies of “gender-responsive climate action in the context of sustainable development” research groups, that furnish us with vital knowledge of the complex and intersecting power relations arising from climate change in gender-diverse communities, make climate research look downright scientific.

Where’d you get that Russian gay coloring book example?
It doesn’t seem like it would pass Putin’s crackdown on homosexual proselytizing.

Lots of people are coloring to relieve stress. Adult coloring books are not easy. If it works, use it. Not exactly children’s play.

One of the new popular past time, way to get into the Word is coloring in and journaling in Bibles. The monks of old did it.

I would think the proper policy should be the opposite - to select a leadership class, a period of testing, of great stress, in order to weed out the weak.
Stress is good.

Mom can put her college kids “art work” on the frig and take comfort knowing it’s only costing her 40k a year.

I’ve noticed coloring books for adults being sold on late night tv and in stores.

Unbelievable really.

My adult daughters have been coloring for years, one more than the other. It’s relaxing for her and she enjoys it.

Neither of my girls are little snowflakes. Both left home by 20 and are living on their own and making their own way through life. Both are conservative and Christian.

One is very artsy but the other is cut and dried black and white. However, she loves the theatrical arts. Kinda weird.

We sprung for tickets to their favorite musical a couple years ago. When it was finally, mercifully over, she said “wasn’t it wonderful?’ “Yea, sure” was my response. I’ve never been so bored in my life.

Last year, all of my kids and some friends wanted to go to NYC to see the Lion King on stage. I drove them all and chose to walk around for 3 hours instead of subjecting myself to the play.

Indeed, you have nailed it.

Love your use of the ill-educated progressive troll practice of concatenating words in a manner that suggests intellect, but prove idiocy.

I’ve seen an increasing number of displays in craft stores with coloring books for adults, too.

Stress is good.

Stress is an indicator that you have a responsibility to fulfill.

When one reaches an adult age, the natural progression is to become a responsible adult. No responsibility=extended childhood=dissatifaction.
