The Trump Surge

Let us make our view perfectly clear: We still believe that Hillary Clinton is more likely than Trump to win the election, and she still has the advantage in the Electoral College. Yet it is equally apparent that she has stumbled badly in recent weeks, fueling Trump’s polling advance. And the Republican nominee has more pathways to 270 electoral votes than he did before. Clinton disappeared for long stretches before Labor Day to do fundraising and failed to define any overriding positive message about what a Hillary Clinton presidency would mean. Then came the “basket of deplorables” gaffe (which some believe might actually help Clinton with her party base) and the lie by omission about her pneumonia, a serious condition that deserves scrutiny. Instead of transparency, there was a bold gambit by Clinton to avoid any health disclosure that might give credence to longtime, far-right theories that she was at death’s door. This ill-advised error reinforced the public’s view that Clinton is secretive and untruthful. At the same time, two other developments helped Trump. His new (third) campaign team, especially Kellyanne Conway, seems to have been able to force some discipline on the unpredictable billionaire. The number of middle-of-the-night tweets has diminished, the use of scripts and the teleprompter is up, and Trump is doing events other than giant rallies filled with true believers who encourage his worst instincts — though he continues to make outrageous statements with some frequency, such as Friday’s suggestion that Clinton’s Secret Service team should be disarmed. (Almost any other candidate would be disqualified by the kinds of remarks Trump has offered. In this sense, there truly is a double standard in media coverage that benefits Trump.)

I have always considered Rasmussen to be non-biased but had been question their objectivity lately with how their polls and comments have changed toward being positive Hillary and criticizing Trump.

Didn’t Ras sell the company?

This is an article by Larry Sabato, the leftwing college professor who predicted that Trump would never become the GOP nominee.

His commentary is pure garbage. Worthless. Don’t know why you wasted your time posting it.

Rasmussen sold his company some years ago and no longer has anything to do with the polling end of things.

The article indicates that Hillary still holds the advantage. I don’t see why we should infer that Rasmussen wants Hillary to win.

Its Larry Sabato’s view, not the polling company.

Some Freepers are reading-impaired.

Sabato is hedging his views as usual so he can say he was right all along.

Do not changed titles. I have modified it back to the original title from the source.

Rasmussen sold the company some time ago...but I just noticed a big shift in their articles lately here in the election home stretch as Hillary is floundering.

Not a waste of time to know what the other side is doing and saying to the sheeple.

People with nothing to say write about this crap.

The race is over VOTERS, not over polls, and we get the answer, not now but on November 8-9. The electoral college has not been appointed, nobody has "advantage" in a non-existent body, it's all just BS to fill up space.

Its called CYA.

Sabato still thinks Hillary will win but just in case, he gave himself an out.

Hillary in reality, is behind in two major polls and tied in others.

And his evidence for a Hillary EC victory is what exactly?

He doesn’t say.

Sabato and the rest of the libtards are morons. How nany articles have been posted here that explain it to them? IT AIN’T ABOUT TRUMP. We are the silent majority, the Tea Party, whatever you want to call it. Attacking Trump just pisses us off. Not that I want them to stop or see the light until after they have been smacked by the train that is coming. It is just yet another example of how obstinately oblivious they are to the reality they continue to deny.

“...such as Friday’s suggestion that Clinton’s Secret Service team should be disarmed.”

This is how you distort the truth. Just bend the facts a little. I wonder if the writer knows what Trump really said and just does not care, or if he just picked up the talking points from the DNC and ran with them.

They lie anyway.

If Hillary was still leading in the polls, they would be calling the election over.

If she’s behind in the polls, they deny Trump can win.

They’re not looking at the data; they’re forcing their belief on the data because they want it to be true Hillary will win.

Sabato and his ilk aren’t scientists; they’re partisan hacks.

Hillary runs as a well known quantity. She’s been in the public eye for almost 28 years. Before that she was first lady of Arkansas. She can’t get 50% of LV in most states.

That is the real story.

Larry once drew respect Now he draws cartoon characters. Only a minuet amount of gravitas can be supported by his mustache.

She’s in the high 30s in most state polls.

Hillary will be lucky to break 40. There’s no enthusiasm for her.

People who look at the data realize she’s going to lose.

Her campaign wouldn’t be trashing Trump every day if she was ahead.

“Her campaign wouldn’t be trashing Trump every day if she was ahead.”

I think she does that to whip up enthusiasm in her base. It’s not working.

Do you see Hillary smiling?

Why she isn’t talking about the issues and projecting a confident, positive image?

No wonder she’s in the dumps in the polls.

Even Fox has stopped using Sabato for analysis. He is as discredited as Rove.
