More than 800 immigrants mistakenly granted citizenship

WASHINGTON (AP) — The U.S. government has mistakenly granted citizenship to at least 858 immigrants who had pending deportation orders from countries of concern to national security or with high rates of immigration fraud, according to an internal Homeland Security audit released Monday.

The Homeland Security Department's inspector general found that the immigrants used different names or birthdates to apply for citizenship with U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services and such discrepancies weren't caught because their fingerprints were missing from government databases.

The report does not identify any of the immigrants by name, but Inspector General John Roth's auditors said they were all from "special interest countries" — those that present a national security concern for the United States — or neighboring countries with high rates of immigration fraud. The report did not identify those countries.

In an emailed statement, the Department of Homeland Security said the findings reflect what has long been a problem for immigration officials — old paper-based records containing fingerprint information that can't be searched electronically. DHS says immigration officials are in the process of uploading these files and that officials will review "every file" identified as a case of possible fraud.

DHS officials identified an additional 953 people who had been naturalized despite outstanding deportation orders, though auditors couldn't determine if those immigrants had digital fingerprints on file or not.

Roth's report said fingerprints are missing from federal databases for as many as 315,000 immigrants with final deportation orders or who are fugitive criminals. Immigration and Customs Enforcement has not reviewed about 148,000 of those immigrants' files to add fingerprints to the digital record.

Can we unmistakenly fire 800 bureaucrats in response? Fire them and permanently remove their vested pension rights.

I don’t think it’s a mistake. I believe the entire US government has become corrupted to do the will of Obama regardless of the laws or the security of the nation.

Well, at least they’ll be able to vote for Clintoon and the ‘RATS in November. This is a disgrace. Friggin government employees. They’re worthless.

The government has known about the information gap and its impact on naturalization decisions since at least 2008 when a Customs and Border Protection official identified 206 immigrants who used a different name or other biographical information to gain citizenship or other immigration benefits, though few cases have been investigated.------------WHY???

Sounds like that’s Obama’s and Jeh Johnson’s cover story this AM on how these Afghans who set the east coast bombs may have gotten their citizenship. They had them on their many Watch Lists, no doubt, but once the names are recorded, who is watching them? This smells a bit like the government’s Fast and Furious scheme.

And Obama wants to bring in 110,000 more “potential mistakes”? We have got to stop this madness before he does any more damage on his way out the door.

Since they employed fraud to obtain citizenship, I would think their citizenship could be rescinded. If not we need a law that makes it possible that would include any that occurred prior to enactment as law.

What difference does it make if we make them citizens?

It’s not like we care if they are here illegally, overstaying visas, or walking across unprotected borders.

WE DON’T CARE!!!

As long as they keep a low profile before they kill us, it’s all good.

will anyone be held responsible?

*************

Nobody will ever be held responsible or accountable. More likely, they will be quickly reassigned to some obscure position in another division, given a new title so you can’t find them, and promoted to keep them quiet.

That’s The Government Way. Trust me, that’s how it actually works.

Fire them and permanently remove their vested pension rights.

Take away their voting rights. That way, there will be no net change in election outcomes.

Naturalized citizens can and have been ‘denaturalized’ for concealing or lying about their past, as well as for joining subversive groups, and even for refusing to testify before Congress. Stripping citizenship should be frequently employed these days.

By law, you are correct. Unfortunately, we all know how immigration laws are disregarded by the present administration.

Whether it is a mistake through incompetence or deliberate, the fact is that the government of the United States no longer works in the interests of the American people. The only thing it does is spend money our children haven’t earned yet, and does nothing of any good whatsoever.

It exists to exist.
