Republican nominee for president Donald Trump opened up a five point lead with New Mexico and its five electoral votes, according to the 141 likely voters in the Reuters/Ipsos poll released Saturday.
Trump has the support of 43 percent of likely voters compared to 38 percent for his Democratic rival Hillary Clinton in the poll executed between Aug. 26 and Sept. 15.

Yeah, I don’t want to be a downer, but all these Reuters/Ipsos polls are tiny samples from their national polls. I keep thinking they’re trying to get Trump doing rallies everywhere, so he can’t focus on a handful of states.
I agree, it is encouraging, it is a good result; however, I would be more encouraged if the same size was 1000, then it would be an excellent result!!
The Republicans have won New Mexico only once (2004) since 1988.
I’m in NM. Trump is not ahead here. Trending up, but La Raza is in full force here.
While the results are great, the very small sample size casts doubt on its credibility
With that sample size, the poll is meaningless.
The New Mexico Hispanic population is different than other states. You have the Nortenos, the descendents of the original Spanish settlers, who have been getting shafted again and again by the fedgov regarding use of National Forest lands and who don’t think much of illegals.
It has a Margin of Error of >8%
It was always going to be a blowout, liberals are just to stupid and blind to see it. Just like global warming, they only see what the want to see.
I’m getting ulcers over this election . It’s sooooo important.
The closest states lost by less than 5% in 2012 would swing it: FL, OH, VA, and CO. PA not needed.
Losing VA and CO would bring the next few closest states into play: IA, NH, NV and WI. Again, PA not needed.
But I’d guess if the trend bring the states named into the Trump column, PA would seem likely to also.
141? Are you kidding me?
Is Trump victory needed to keep PA Senate seat for GOP ?
Can the Lunger stanch the bleeding? What’s she got left? - I smell panic
Let’s not get too excited yet! The 1st debate is so important!
If TRUMP screws it up, he can be back at being down 10 again!
Lets not get too excited yet! The 1st debate is so important! If TRUMP screws it up, he can be back at being down 10 again!
. . .also remember that with the #BoycottNFL gaining steam, the first debate will be watched by viewers who refuse to tune in to Monday Night Felons
Yes, the problem of a small sample size!
“Wow, NM is in play. Another domino falls.”
I agree, if this holds it is good news for Trump.
I’ve never been to New Mexico. But I’ve heard that the big Hispanic population of New Mexico is mostly made up of people whose families have been there for generations. As opposed to big Hispanic populations made up of 1st and 2nd generation migrants found in some other states. Which in turn would make a big difference in their attitudes towards illegal immigration and other issues.
Nonsense, Hispanics hate Trump because he is raciss
