iOS 10 rollout goes titsup as update 'bricks' iPhones and iPads
The Inquirer ^ | 14 September 2016 | Carley Page

APPLE RELEASED iOS 10 to iPhone and iPad users on 13 September, but the update turned some devices into overpriced bricks instead of delivering new functionality.

iOS 10 was released to all at 6pm UK time on Tuesday, but those who flocked to install the update were quick to regret their decision.

Just minutes after the rollout began, social media sites filled up with complaints from pissed off iPhone users who, after trying to download iOS 10 over WiFi, found that their iDevice had been rendered useless.

That’s a bit of FUD...;) For those who choose not to get their Note7 replaced (for free), they will be limited in charging. However, the new Note7 replacements will go to a full 100% charge.

And if we want to use common “excuses”, it happened to nearly no one, it was just 0.0014%, such a small number that it’s statistically irrelevant!

T’s down, but annoyed with a few things so far...namely tap top to instant scroll to top not working on FR. The start notification screen...must make it go away.

Every upgrade there is a story like this.. some users complaining their devices got bricked.... its a precanned story they could print after every OS upgrade and as far as I know they probably do...

Yet I know of no one personally who has ever had this happen to them... not saying Apple is perfect, I got one of their iphone 5’s with the defective battery... of course I just bought a new battery and the tools needed to fix it from ifixit.com and fixed it for under $30.

I guess in the corrupted, “X”-rated culture of ours, “bellyup” doesn’t cut it anymore.

The first time I heard this expression was listening to Coasties (Coast Guard Sailors) who worked SAR (search and rescue) off San Diego. They would find the long dead victims of shipwrecks or boating accident "floating and bloating", in a "tits up" position.......Gallows humour I gather.....
Hence, it became "something that was no longer viable, not working or broken"

Gee, Samsung phones explode and destroy people's cars burning them up, that doesn't sound irrelevant to the Samsung owners! You Samsung folks get your panties in a bunch when it's your fanclub having problems.

Because fire never happens with an iPhone, right?

If you'd actually read what I wrote, I was using the common excuse seen on FR (and elsewhere) to excuse any issues with Apple products; that being, it's such a small number of people that it's irrelevant (typically being 0.1% or so affected, or about two orders of magnitude GREATER than this Note7 issue).

But when a company is proactive and voluntarily recalls all products and replaces them with a new device AND provides a patch to prevent any potential issues still out there with devices not replaced - that's bad?

Should be “utters up” (UU or “uniform uniform”).

It’s a pretty effort on my part to tweak an apple fan who was making fun of Samsung yesterday.

Ah, you see, warning Freepers about the recalled Samsung Galaxy Note 7 that explodes in use causing third degree burns and burns up automobiles and houses is, in the Anti-Apple Hate Brigade parlance "making fun of Samsung" and the equivalent of a few iPhones having an update download problem. I see.

Hmmmm.... I’ve updated two iPhones and an iPad Air 2 since iOS 10 came out yesterday and all three work like a champ. Did all three over wifi too. What was I doing wrong?

I don't know bro. Maybe the same thing that I did. I updated an IPhone 5, an IPhone 6, and a tablet, over WiFi, all at the same time. All three work perfectly. Can you say false flag? I don't think they know the definition of bricked.

Just tried it on my iPad Pro. . . Worked fine. Did you do a full restart of your device, I suggest doing so, although I did not.

The proper expression is Tango Uniform.

I first heard it back in the 80s, when I was in Germany.

“What kind of expression is “titsup”?”

Doesn’t Heinz make that and it has like 70% sugar?

At least the extremely annoying everyday prompt to upgrade to the last update for the 6S that started as soon as I got it has stopped.

From your first link:

"Apple had nothing to do with the development of Beats' Pill XL; the Bluetooth speaker was launched in 2013, long before Apple spent billions to acquire the popular headphone maker. But as it turns out, there's a potential fire risk associated with the product, and now it's turned into a headache for Apple."

From your Second Link:

Apple Inc. (NASDAQ:AAPL) has had issues over the years with batteries overheating, but recent complaints by MacBook Pro users were too hot to handle, forcing big-box retailer Best Buy Co. Inc. (NYSE:BBY) to finally issue a recall notice for 5,100 replacement batteries made by a third party as the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, or CPSC, advised customers to “immediately stop using the recalled battery.”

From your third link:

""We discovered some Sony batteries in PowerPC-based iBooks and PowerBooks didn't meet Apple's standards and performance," said Steve Dowling, a spokesman for Apple. He added that no Intel-based Mac notebooks were affected by the battery issue.

Sony said its recent recalls - 1.8 million batteries for Apple and 4.1 million for Dell announced last week - will cost the company between $172 million and $258 million."

In other words, it was a recall of SONY batteries. Apple experienced exactly six over heated laptops out of 1.8 million G-4 laptops sold, but decided to recall anyway.
