Hyde: Four protesting Dolphins joined by a big fifth — owner Steve Ross
Sun Sentinel ^ | 9/11/16 | Dave Hyde

Posted on 09/12/2016 5:38:29 AM PDT by SoFloFreeper

Steve Ross applauded the four Dolphins players who knelt during the anthem....

After they stood by kneeling, after they spoke loudly saying nothing, long after four Miami Dolphins players became a national story by their protest during the national anthem, they were joined by a fifth Dolphin.

Steve Ross, the team owner, went up to safety Michael Thomas in the locker room and shook his hand.

And so this national sports protest for change and more racial awareness got its biggest recruit to date....

He's a multi-billionaire. He's a game-changer, too. And if players face some fans' wrath for kneeling down – as they know they do – Ross presents a bigger name and bigger target...

"I don't think there was any lack of respect," Ross said. "Everyone in this team and whole organization respects the flag and what it stands for. These guys are making a conversation about something that's very important topic in this country. I'm 100 percent in support of them."

Good for him. Good for this cause for social awareness. Good that someone rich and powerful wants to...

Dolphins coach Adam Gase has no problem with players kneeling during anthem...

The right to free speech works both ways, of course. And those upset with these players and Ross for taking this stance have an equal and opposite right to be heard....

This is what a democracy sounds like - loud and combative and even sloppy as ideas get discussed. Some will like this protest. Some won't at all. That's America. Everyone gets heard.

"I don't think there's anyone in the organization, all the players included, that want to create any disrespect for this country, for this flag, for the soldiers or anything else. I think they know we're 100 percent behind them," Ross said.

I did not watch one game yesterday. And it was trash game week for college football. Oh well.

A “protest” built on a pack of lies.

But don’t you dare try to honor police officers murdered in Dallas or US citizens murdered in New York on 9-11.

Screw the NFL.

I’m just going with boycotting the teams that let this crap go on. They can do what they want without my participation. Sponsors, are you listening?

Why is the owner worried about repercussions, he has a new stadium in place for next year.

Wonder how he would feel if the other members of the team would decide to express their opposition to the owner by refusing to play the next game. He would not be able to fire all of them, because he would have no team. Freedom of expression goes both ways. That’s why it’s wise to keep politics out of show business, which includes professional sports.

Former huge Dolphins fan and season ticket holder. May they lose every game. May no one fill seats. May no merchandise be bought. Screw all these idiots. I have had it.

For the first time ever, we watched golf instead of the NFL yesterday. It was great! No participants felt the need to make political statements, and it gave us a relaxing break from politics. I highly recommend it.

The freedom of free speech was won by others... and certainly not on a football field.

A person should recognize the sacrifices of those others when exercising the freedom. Even if the struggle is real, etc. if you haven’t earned the right for yourself, you should give respect to those who have secured it for you...

Evidently neither does half the Country. What is actually represents is the pissing on the grave of every man and woman that has died for this Country; to wit} The United States of America. And what this Country Represents. It is evidence of the contempt that they hold the sacrifices and those that made those sacrifices in. I no longer watch, attend. or listen to professional football games. If I am in an establishment where they have a game on the big screen, I turn my head. That is all I can do, but I will do that.

This crap would not have been tolerated by coaches such Tom Laundry, Don Shula, Vince Lombardi to name a few.

If you saw the Cowboys-Giants game, totally different attitude there. Great recognition of 9-11, no protests. Don’t write the team, write Jerry Jones (the big hoss behind the owners group) and the NFL.

I use to watch the Dolphin games. I won't watch any this year. A bunch of rich, spoiled, ignorant brats who want to relevant.

Steve Ross is paying Kenny Stills big bux to catch footballs. That’s punishment enough.

Very much not a fan of the New England Patriots, but from what I saw last night, all them stood respectfully with hands over hearts, and one of them helped hold the flag on the field. Belicheck may be an ass, but he has total control over his team and I believe he laid down the law on how they were going to behave.
