Fins Hold Players-Only Meeting To Discuss Possible National Anthem Demonstration In 9/11 Opener
CBS Miami ^ | 9/9/2016 | Mike Cugno

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins held a players-only meeting Friday to discuss a possible demonstration against racial inequality during the national anthem in their season opener.

Sunday marks 15 years since the September 11th terror attacks. Families will mourn lost loved ones. Americans across the country will pause to reflect on one of the most horrific days in our history.

But in the NFL, many players say they’re considering using that day to protest.

The Seahawks’ roster has a demonstration planned for the national anthem.

Dolphin players may also have something in the works, but it appears to be on an individual basis.

“Every man for himself, I guess. Each his own,” said Dolphins safety Reshad Jones. “Everybody have different opinions and entitled to different things.

It’s a controversial gesture which will likely be even more polarizing with the opening of the NFL season falling on the 9/11 anniversary.

The NFL says they plan on honoring service men and women, first responders and the victims of September 11th across the league on Sunday.

There will also be a message from President Barack Obama and former President George W. Bush.

My prayer for 2016 and the NFL and its boys:

1. Players from every team “protest” by sitting during the National Anthem.
2. Fans protest by not going to games.
3. Fans protest by refusing to purchase overpriced or otherwise NFL gear and tickets.
4. Stadiums are about, say, 5% full on Sundays.
5. TV revenues go waaaaaaaaaaay down.
6. NFL folds completely by 2018.

Again, my prayer!

Please, NFL, don’t “honor” anyone. Cancel playing the National Anthem. Just play your little game, don’t give your millionaire players a forum to make their juvenile statements, and let real Americans who do meaningful things with their lives honor other real Americans.

The best way to honor anyone, NFL, is just just be the morally-empty, mindless entertainment that you are.

They might finally have chased me away. If I had known that Bronco player took a knee. I wouldn’t have watched the game.

And the Fins give me another reason to root against them here in South Florida.

The NFL has lost its’ marbles!!! These overpaid whiners evidently do not realize that they are EMPLOYEES of an organization that has historically stood for patriotic Americanism. Those players who sit are not representing properly the NFL “brand”! (UNLESS the NFL no longer HAS a brand)!!! In most private companies, going against the corporate image can get you fired! As far as I am concerned, they’ve jumped the shark with this one!!!!!

If Don Shula were still coach and any Dolphin players disrespected the National Anthem, they would be off the team the next Monday.

“Fins”?

What is it with sportscasters/writers? They have to cut team names & terms of the sport to the shortest possible euphemism?

Baseball seems to be the worst. “K”s - really? Major League baseball is such a slow game that an announcer could enunciate “Strike outs”, then translated it into Swahili AND Sanskrit and still have time to spare before the pitcher stops fooling around.

I just want Mr. Ross to know that if he can’t control his players, he definitely can’t win a Super Bowl.

I might not go to a game (even though it’s paid for).

If you want to see what can happen when a sport goes more PC than it’s fan base, just look at the stands in NASCAR. They’re looking at a major loss of revenue, here.

Appeasement just doesn't work with these people.Pass the 1964 Civil Rights Law, which Barry Goldwater was correct to oppose, and we had massive race riots. Elect a half arab, that most people think is a half negro, to the Presidency and the Negros again riot and do displays of hatred for our country*.

Incidentally, in part, because of the mangling of The Star Spangled Banner with that "every nation sing" rippoff, I put on you tube my own rendition of the Star Spangled Banner.

*I know there are people such as war hero Allen West who are among the greatest Americans, but I didn't use the word ALL in my earlier statements -- just the majority.

Unbelievable! What is going on????!

Hillary is running for President and trailing in the polls against a guy who is pro-America.

So she has to push hating America.

To her, this is obvious logic.

I’m done with the Nazi Fag League. Pro-football is dead to me. If the colleges follow suit, then I’m done with football forever.

This is what I did: I contacted the NFL players association at https://www.nflpa.com/contact-us and told them that because of the disrespect shown to the flag and anthem, which in my opinion is also ‘dissing’ the fans—I no longer watch ‘thugball’ formerly known as football.

FYI and FReepr Info, tonight in Bristol Tennessee the largest attendence game in football history will take place in Bristol Tennessee. The city of Bristol Tennessee/Virginia claims the largest stadium in the world said to seat 160, 000 NASCAR fans at the Bristol International Speedway

The game will feature the Volunteers of the University of Tennessee playing the Hokies of Virginia Tech. The game will take place before a sold out crowd of 150,000 rabid fans.

The festivities began last night and will take place pretty much all day today. The stadium opens at 4:00 pm for the game kickoff at 8:00 PM

Contractor began as soon as the infield was vacated after the last race in August to transform the racetrack infield into a foot ball grid iron. The revenue to Bristol and Kingsport and Johnson city is humongous. People arrived in Campers earlier in the week and began a multiday party that will last for who knows how long. (for a typical big race, there are literally thousands of RV campers that come and stay several days)

The first annual event is a story for the ages

Right you are. This team has fallen far since Shula. Marino would reel this crap in as well.

I have always felt that the National Anthem shouldn't be played before sporting events. Pearls before swine, is how I see it. But, that being said, it has served to root out the hateful thugs that play the game.
