Dell-EMC to Lay Off 2,000 – 3,000 US Workers after Requesting 5,000 H-1B Visas
Wolf Street ^ | 9 September 2016 | Wolf Richter

The ink was barely dry on Dell’s acquisition of EMC, the largest technology deal ever, valued at $67 billion when it was announced in October last year – and already the layoff rumors are oozing from the woodwork.

But Dell needs to save some money, one way or the other. Dell’s corporate credit rating is at the upper end of junk. It’s loaded to the gills with debt, stemming from when it was taken private. Now the EMC deal has piled new debt on the company, including $20 billion of bonds it sold in May, followed by a $5-billion leveraged loan.

In any engineering effort management gets to pick only 2 from the list below:

good
fast
cheap

Corps importing foreign ‘talent’ means they’ve picked cheap. Dev cycles are short which means theyve picked fast. The result then is not good. Managers seem slow to catch on...

but eliminating patent rights in the US “

This would do NO such Thing, If you have a Patent and Produce a Product then you must produce said Product here or you are SOL in OUR COURTS, Nothing would prevent the Government from BANNING IMPORTATION to protect that Patent, That is the FUNCTION OF GOVERNMENT in the First Place, You Just CAN NOT SUE HERE if you Don’t Make it Here..
Which means if you Don’t MAKE it Here the PRODUCT DISAPPEARS FROM THE US

I have one that I bought a year ago and it is the WORST computer I have ever had to work with. I hadn’t had it a month and it was in the shop; two weeks after I got it home, I had to send it back; a week after it came back, I had to send it off again, and they never. did. address. the. original. problem. And they refused to replace it.

I hate this thing and will be glad when it dies again so I can get me something GOOD. GAH. (And worst, the teckies don’t speak English very well.)

You are correct. These companies import people into low paying jobs and fire American workers. Then the remaining taxpayers are forced support both the fired workers and imported workers, who do not pay enough into the system to cover their share of the federal and state expense. This is corporate welfare.

Two days ago I had to call my CenturyLink telephone company. Kept getting bounced from dept to dept.

1st person —> Charanel
2nd person —> Shedema
3rd person —> Abeni

Any chance all 3 of these were in India ? They certainly weren’t native Americans.

Yeah that was always the complaint I seemed to hear from people that owned them which is why I had asked the question.

But apparently it is businesses that keep them in business, and the household consumer is not really valued by Dell.

I have no idea if the computer I mentioned in post #28 is good, but it specs out nicely.

You most likely know my ex husband, he worked for EMC for a long time.

I just sold the last of my EMC stock on the advice of my FA, he warned that it would get bumpy for Dell.

Sad.

Hope you hold on to your job!

So I’ll paint the picture. Dell, perhaps manufactured and sold more PCs than anyone in history took on tons of debt to finance their privatization. Now to finance the largest tech merger in history they take on more debt. Each time undoubtedly corporate officers get a giant piece of pie.

Now to correct the balance sheets they are firing U.S. workers and importing cheaper foreign labor, and our immigration system is so chaotic because of progressive meddling this will be allowed to happen. Also the SEC is AWOL.

Does that about sum it up? We allow this to happen, we pay for it to happen and we have no advocate to stop it from happening. So much for “of the people, by the people, and for the people.

Well said. It's failed crony capitalism at its finest. We the people, have so much to fix.

Since our country’s economy is based on competition, this move should surprise no one.

Ya think Americas economy is based on importing foreigners to take American jobs here at home so the fat corps can receive bigger profits?

Really?

Stupid money buys EMC.

They once were the best, but now they are a pig in a poke at premium pricing.

I know. I work in the enterprise storage industry. I have worked for all the majors.
