As a result of this non-enforcement of statutes, Trump would hardly need the authority of another law to implement his anti-illegal-immigration policies.

True...up to a point.

The problem with current law is that being in the country illegally is a mere misdemeanor.

Illegal entry needs to be upgraded to a felony, so the crime can be treated with the seriousness it deserves.
